And the reality is that guys are warned about this constantly. I was friends with a guy getting recruited in high school, and he wouldn't even do our March Madness challenge because he didn't want to "gamble" and lose his shot at a scholarship.

Same reason more people view porn now. Because its shoved into your face at every turn. You dont have to drive to a physical store and walk in a buy a magazine. They make this shite readily avaialble and the goal is to ruin lives.
You're getting downvoted for this but couldn't be more right.

But no, you're absolutely right. I don't see the fix either.

Oh yeah I'm sure the NCAA will see it the same way

I can definitely acknowledge his actions breached the rules. But I’m a proportionality guy and I don’t think betting on his games that he didn’t play in should result in a punishment that ends his college career. Unless there’s more to the story we don’t know of yet.
The way this is going, I think there's probably a higher chance of Sorsby ending up in prison at some point than playing college football in 2026. I hope he has lawyered up and quickly because the NCAA is likely going to be the least of his worries.

That excuse is the of equivalent of just two pills today is fine, until a year later and the first needle kills the same person. Gambling, drugs, and alcohol aren’t any different when it comes down to gambling and addiction and the effects it can have have on the person addicted to any of them. I could be talking out of my arse, but I’d be willing to bet that no more than 5 years from now gambling ads will go the way of tobacco.

I think it’s when you are constantly aroused and viewing porn while not actually ejaculating.

Look what he before announcing rehab

According to court documents obtained by On3, the former Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback has filed a motion to dismiss the university’s lawsuit against him, taking direct aim at the $1 million buyout the school is seeking after his transfer.
In the filing, Sorsby’s legal team argues the claim “fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted,” calling the financial demand an “unreasonable and disproportionate penalty” under Ohio law. The motion, filed under Rule 12(b)(6), specifically asks the court to dismiss Cincinnati’s claims for liquidated damages and attorney’s fees.
quote:
The language is pointed: “The University of Cincinnati filed this action to garner a news headline that it was going to punish a former star athlete who dared to exercise his right to leave the school by forcing him to pay UC $1 million,” the memorandum states. “Compared to the $875,800 that Mr. Sorsby received for his performance under the agreement, UC’s demand for $1 million is exposed as nothing more than an unreasonable and disproportionate penalty.”
At the center of the dispute is an NIL agreement signed in July 2025, which Cincinnati claims obligated Sorsby to remain with the program for two seasons, or pay a buyout if he transferred early. After informing the school of his intent to leave in December, Sorsby entered the transfer portal and ultimately signed with Texas Tech just days later.
Cincinnati has maintained that Sorsby breached the agreement and is capable of paying the $1 million figure, particularly after reportedly signing a deal worth around $5 million with Texas Tech. The school has emphasized its responsibility to enforce contractual commitments.

If that's the case, I agree.
Rehab doesn't solve that problem.

If he was betting on balls and strikes, you know he has crossed the $800 cap on professional sports betting. That's auto 30% of the season suspension.
That's before getting into betting on college sports and his own school.

It could for him personally, but at the end of the day these gambling platforms don’t give a shite about him or anyone else. Legalized gambling and NIL came together for the perfect storm to play a huge role in the destruction of college athletics and the final sellout for companies and sports talking heads personalities to pretend they give a damn.

LSU pulled a Neo in the Matrix move on not taking Sorsby and picking up Leavitt instead.
