Nah. It's really easy to not bet on your own team's games.

If he was doing like $10 or more I’d agree, but $1 or $2.50, dude was just having fun tossing around a little cash.

Completely disagree.

If the ncaa and/or courts bend on this it takes away any suspension of disbelief.

Number 1 it absolutely is one step away from betting on his own games so absolutely TERRIBLE precedent and it’s only a matter of time before it’s done en masse.

Number 2 is that even if it’s not his own team he’s in a relatively exclusive club/small community. He knows friends on other teams and would have info on injuries practice performance etc that others might not be privy to.

He was on the roster. There's always a chance that the starter gets hurt and he ends up playing.

NCAA has to drop the hammer on him with a permanent ban. Their rules about players gambling don't leave any wiggle room for leniency if a player gets caught betting on their own team's games. They can't let him off easy for this because then it sets precedent for other athletes that get caught doing the same thing in the future.

The only thing that him not actually playing in the games he bet on does is maybe save him from potential criminal charges. Although he still may get in trouble since if he was betting on Indiana games in 2023, then he'd have only been 19 and not old enough to legally gamble in Indiana.

Well, maybe I’m wrong but I’m very close in age to this cat and I know how societally accepted it is to wager on sports among my peers. He is a high end QB and plays by a different set of rules. I don’t know this guy’s financial situation when this ordeal went down, it sounds like he’s pretty set now. So in my eyes, it looks like he was just throwing around a couple of dollars for the entertainment of it and I hate that that would end his college career when it seems to be a victimless crime in this situation. I understand yalls viewpoint on the precedent of it though.

live betting individual balls and strikes sounds as degenerate as possible

I’ve done some pretty degenerate things, but I’ve never bet on individual pitches

It is socially acceptable now but it's also pretty clear that we've opened Pandora's box on this and it's probably not a good thing especially for guys his age.

It’s basically insider trading when he’s betting on CFB games.

Knowing people tangentially related to athletics and they have to register with the NCAA and the NCAA monitors them.

This is an active player.

Frankly this and gooning are the two biggest societal issues impacting young men today

Idk the fix is but something needs to be done to rein in the absolute wild west we've unleashed with online gambling and prediction markets

100%

He likely has sat through many many training sessions about the gambling ban and penalties. I’m sure his scholarship and NIL deals have anti gambling sections.

All reviewed and signed by him.

No one else to blame.

That and access to gambling being in your pocket now. The kids that grew up wasting money doing microtransactions on video/mobile games took the next step.

It’s always been around but it hasn’t always been legal, and now it’s legal in a lot of the country. I’m all for personal choice when it comes to gambling or anything else but the gambling thing was always going to be a problem, I’d be willing to bet a lot of what goes on in college and professional sports is being kept under wraps. At least for the time being. This type of thing shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone when it comes to college athletics, NIL plus legalized gambling has IMO been a detriment to college athletics compared to what it once was. These young men are being paid millions to play and they can’t even watch ESPN or any random sports video on YouTube without some type of gambling ad popping up. Sooner or later that’s going to grab some people, which is exactly why the gambling adds exist to begin with.

That’s the key point most of the talking heads on all the platforms will not talk about because they are being sponsored by the same gambling companies. These gambling platforms better do what they can to control it or they might find themselves on the same side of tobacco when it comes advertising.

That Utah game was like, what the frick happened to this guy.

My guess is that he knows he's done in college and is just trying to get ahead of the story in an attempt to salvage a chance at the NFL.
