Yea there's got to be a way they could do something at the current stadium for way under $500 Million

Yeah I've been to a handful of games there and have always enjoyed the experience. I've just always heard Ranger fans talk so highly of the ballpark so this comes as a big surprise to me that they would do this.

On the other hand every time I have been it was in the summer for night games and the heat was insane, I could only imagine how it is for a day game. So I definitely understand the attraction of a retractable roof.

It's a really nice park. Problem is the summer heat is just a killer for those day games and it would actually cost more to retrofit this one with a roof than it would to just build a new one. I think it's worth preserving with a Fenway-style renovation.

This is such bullshite. Stadiums have way too short of a lifespan now a days. It's a great park in a great location. frick this.

That's never open. I don't know why they bother building these things if they never use them.

Roof is the selling point for me.. Ballpark at Arlington just seemed to keep the heat in somehow.

Sounds like Rangers fans are just pussies like their players or whatever.

Our stadium is awesome. While I agree it needs a roof because of the killer sun and heat here, it's kind of part of it.

Huge waste of their tax money. Arlington is a shite hole overall. The roads are awful. That money could be put to much better use.

Then again, over here on my side in Collin County, McKinney just approved (barely) a new HS stadium to keep up with Allen. Tax money is like taking free air over here when it comes to sports.

Exactly. The only thing wrong with it is that it's in Arlington instead of Dallas.

I'm glad we won't be doing anything like this. Once they take out the hill and add in the party deck in centerfield Minute Maid will be perfect. There's a ton of new condos going up right around it too

Here's the real story:

Rougned Odor asked for a roof. If he doesn't get it he is going to go all Joey Bats on somebody's arse again.

Kind of a waste of a perfectly good stadium. The Rangers Ameriquest Ballpark Field GlobeLife Park in Arlington has aged well and doesn't appear dated compared to other newer parks. But if you've ever been to a day game there in the summer time and baked in the sun, a roof makes a frickton of sense.

All of this.

C'mon now, they're not keeping up with Allen, they're slightly passing them Allen cost $60 million, McKinney $63 million so theirs is $3 million better

And don't forget the Frisco practice facility for the Cowboys that's costing $1.5 billion, which is more than JerryWorld.

With the Rangers getting a new ballpark as well, how soon before Cuban starts lobbying to get out of the AAC?

Glad to see the Braves started a new trend in MLB of dumping 20-year-old stadiums.

He owns land across I-35E and has already started talking about it:

Likely the Stars come with them (though nobody cares about hockey except for the Chicago/Detroit fans who live here).

They should get the hell out of Arlington instead of building a new stadium there.
