Its not that I dont understand it, its the fact that I dont give a frick. That and the fact that outside of Lafayette it seems to be a pretty futile attempt.

If you don't give a frick, then why are you posting in this thread? Ahhhh, post count.

Because it humors me how much a group of people from Lafayette get so mad when you say "at Lafayette".

People pissed off about a name that they'll never hear on a game that they'll never watch.

Don't a lot of people from Cal embrace being called "Berkeley"? Plus, plenty of folks (including people I know with degrees from there) call University of Texas, UT-Austin.

On the academics side. I believe you can find most of their athletics programs referred to as "Cal."

Again, whens the last time you heard Texas athletic programs referred to as the UT-Austin Longhorns. You don't.

Thus, the situation is no different for UL. The academic portion of the university goes by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Athletics wishes to go by Louisiana.

Glad to see ESPN giving favorable treatment to the only team in Louisiana headed for a conference title.

Are those the result of singular administration decrees and multiple emails sent to broadcasting announcers, though?

The Sunbelt doesn't really count in the eyes of ESPN, or most of the sports watching nation.
