And you know what...I agree with that. If we start becoming a perennial winner, the name thing won't matter.
I just have to laugh at people who "couldn't care less" then an editorial like that in Mornoe's paper pops up. That author has hated us since last year when they blitzed all 11 defenders at our QB...so we threw it up and scored.

Yeah that's not it. I vaguely remember a 20 page thread started by a UL-Lafayette fan discussing the UL-Lafayette SID writing a strongly worded email to ESPN regarding their repeated references to UL -Lafayette as UL-Lafayette when they wanted themselves referred to as "UL" or the "University of Louisiana." ESPN gives no fricks apparently.

The problem, obviously, is that you have two schools in the UL system that are equal. It's absolutely not like the UT comparison because, presumably, UT is a flagship or primary school, and the other schools are affiliates of that primary school. ULL is not the "flagship", nor the designated primary school under the ULL system. Thus, you have two UL system schools which have to be differentiated somehow. Since neither is the flagship, then neither is THE UL. They are UL at Lafayette, and UL at Monroe. The rest is just little brother syndrome by some who are severely butthurt, and there is no logical basis or entitlement which would allow ULL to call themselves what they are not. Period.

I don't think this topic would have been brought up if it hadn't been newsworthy due to the ESPN/Sunbelt issue.
