I'm on phone at work so can't quote. Newsflash his wife isn't divorcing him, and she didn't during the multiple sexual harassment lawsuits where had sex with employees... Open marriage it sounds like.
The only way this guy loses is by divorce. Fines and banning will be overturned in court.

I'm nitpicking, but does "solely" need to be in the statement?
It helps to create the false dichotomy.

If they follow through with the threat to force the sale, the circus will last for years to come.

So now the NBA has a duty to clean up all aspects of the game - no more racist players, no more racist agents, no more racist coaches - right? How is the league going to explain how Jay-Z is allowed to be an NBA agent after his racial rants "F*** white people. Really. Whites are evil." I would say that this is much worse than Sterling's comments. The commish has a lot of work to do now that he has made this decision. Not defending Sterling, far from it, but this is way over the line for comments made in a private conversation. Expect Sterling to sue the league and make a lot more than $2.5 million. I think this is a really bad move on the commish's part.
Just goes to show you how far people will go to avoid being called a racist. Anything less and Silver and the NBA would have been accused of being racist sympathizers. Rev. Al and Jessie Jackson have to be smiling today.

I think most people's issues with all of this is the fact that those being "offended" by this action of Sterling, themselves have done nothing to stop racism.
I love hearing "We have to stop racism" from people that are openly racist themselves, but hide under the guise of being a minority. You can't have it both ways, and racism isn't going to end with this. Like I said, I think Sterling is a POS, but acting like he's somehow more racist than many of the NBA players people are calling victims is ridiculous.

If you are operating in California, you should always get the consent of all parties before recording any conversation that common sense tells you might be "private" or "confidential." In addition to subjecting you to criminal prosecution, violating the California wiretapping law can expose you to a civil lawsuit for damages by an injured party. See Cal. Penal Code § 637.2.
While that is good, practical advice (don't record things in CA without consent of all parties), that's still advice and not the law. The case law cited states that for a conversation to be private, the speaker must have a reasonable expectation no one is listening.
Sterling, applying these particular facts, had no such expectation. Well, he probably doesn't consider the maid a person, but still. He had objective knowledge the conversation was not private, thus he cannot use dual consent statute.

Well damn, I didn't think about this. It would be downright bullshite to not lifetime ban every single semi racist comment ever made by one associated with the NBA.

I still don't get how you can ban a man that owns the team. He is a tPOS for sure but he owns the team, seems like an over reach of power personally.

just because you created a false dichotomy that does not reflect reality does not mean that i'm playing semantics
unless you define reality as "semantics"
no but the fact that you are proud of calling out racist relatives and purposefully avoid racist people means that deep down, racist fricks bother you.
You can pretend you don't use emotion in your logical living but in reality you do.
You just don't want to own up to it.
That's fine b/c at the end of the day you are still telling racists to figuratively frick off.
