They should be in a conference if they want to be in the playoffs. If not, let them host their own Irish Bowl in Ireland for all I care.

Looks like 10 P4 teams to me and no FCS, 7 true home games… just like any other P4 schedule.
Then it triggers everyone that they’re not in a conference
Honestly what should happen is ND gets an ACC championship game bid if they’re in the top 12, just like they should. The other team in the ACCCG would get the trophy and call themselves ACC champions, but both teams would get a de facto playoff game to help their playoff causes

but a special rule is fricking insanity.
You mean like the rule in the SEC that Miss. St. is the only school that is allowed artificial noisemakers at football games?

I think a generic addendum that mandates any team in the top eight must be part of the field makes sense.
In no universe does a top twelve ranking merits automatic qualification make sense . The goal is to include every team with a legitimate argument for a national championship

All of college football needs to refuse to schedule ND until they join a conference

Their 4th hardest game of the season based on quality of opponents from this season is Wisconsin.
To put that in perspective 4 playoff teams played Wisconsin this year.
Wisconsin was Alabama's 11th hardest game according to FPI. They were Indiana's 7th hardest. Ohio State's 7th hardest. Oregons 7th hardest.

Why does the college football world keep bowing to Notre Dame's demands?

Writing in special rules for specific teams is beyond corrupt.
Who authorized this? Did the P4 conferences agree to this? Doesn't seem like anything that can't be dealt with by the P4 conferences simple saying FU.
P. S. Just another reason in a long list why normal people hate ND.

If they hate ND so much, the conferences/unions/socialists should just cut out ND since they are operating on their own as an independent school. Shame on ND for being independent. I'm not a socialist so I am not in favor of it, so I guess that makes me not normal.

I'll preface this by saying the 2026 ND schedule on paper appears to be easy af. However, if you break it down it's not that they purposefully schedule shite teams.
Return for playing them in Soldier Field in 2021. Wisconsin won 10 games in 2019 when this was getting scheduled out.
Easy G5 team they schedule every season, just like every P4 team does
Traditional rivals they have played 79 and 89 times respectfully. Blame Michigan for ducking the real Big 10 rivalry game.
Will be on the schedule forever.
All part of the ACC deal
Have played 38 times
Arguably a top 5 rivalry game.
ND has been getting more SEC teams on the schedule to bump it up, and I would much rather them play 5 games against SEC or Big 12 teams than shite ACC teams, but the prevailing sentiment is for the SEC teams to avoid scheduling big out of conference games (although they will tell you ND is shite so why is it a big game?).

How does any of this affect that they are getting a special privilege in playoff qualification that no other team in the country is getting? And it's been happening long before next year.
I couldn't care less if Notre Dame plays a bowl game. In fact, let them go to their room and cry themselves to sleep. And it does hurt the "betterment" of the game when we have to have a 5-7 team step into a bowl game when a 10-2 team throws a fit because it couldn't be at the grown-up table.

So they get to claim a bunch of old "rivalries" because they arent in a conference. All against teams outside of USC that havent been relevant in decades.
shite they only played Purdue once from like 2015-2023.
They didnt even start playing Stanford consistently until the 90's.

And when all the other schools band together and decide not to schedule those 30?
You'd have a better product and a better sense of who was actually deserving, because no one could play FCS schools or crappy G5 teams anymore. It doesn't make any sense to have a "top division" with 136 teams in it.
It would be really fun if they also implemented promotion and relegation at the same time but that is unlikely to ever happen.

Aren't we quickly going to 16 teams? Top 12 won't matter. Everyone in top 12 will make it.
Posted on 12/8/25 at 3:20 pm to jlnoles79
Gee I was wrong....I thought the SEC and B1G ruled college football.
Notre Dame can make whole conferences bow to their rules.

People always talk shite about ND’s schedule but where are the cupcakes?
Rice and if you want to get technical Navy, but everyone schedules teams like them
Dude, they have one good team on their schedule - Miami.
Wisconsin, Rice, Mich State, Purdue, UNC, Navy, BC, and Stanford are weak. Syracuse and SMU are ok. USC is sort of good, but not great.
That schedule is an abomination.
Compare that to LSU:
Clemson
McNeese
@ Arkansas
@Auburn
@Kentucky
Alabama
Mississippi State
Texas
Texas A&M
@Ole Miss
@Tennessee
