The betterment of the game?
The ACC and ESPN campaigned openly against ND the last 2 weeks, and in favor of Alabama and Miami, to make the playoffs.
But you expect ND to play in a bowl game broadcast by ESPN - in which ESPN will get significantly more eyeballs if ND plays - and the ACC will collect revenue under their existing contract because ND puts fans in the seats of even crappy bowl games?
That's a very naive, but interesting take. ND isn't going to be a cuck. And I don't blame them. This is a business decision against 2 entities that operated in bad faith.
The irony is that I think in 3-5 years the NCAA will be defunct, and ND (who has long been independent) will be part of leading the charge for a 30 team mega-conference.

The CFP should be the 12 highest ranked teams.

So what’s stopping the committee from making them #13

Why does notre dame get the benefit of the doubt because they choose not to play in a conference?

this cant actually be true.......right?
I did some research - it is true. They have protection from just the scenario that played out this year. Top 12 = playoff guarantee. Conferences agreed to it when the playoff was expanded.

Why are we making special circumstances for a program that last won a national championship when Ronald Reagan was still in office? Make it make sense.

I'm a practicing Catholic, and I cannot stand Notre Dame for this very reason. They want special privileges for themselves, but they won't bend in any way for the betterment of the game.
There is nothing Catholic about that school at this point. They even removed “Catholic mission” out of their university mission statement last month.
They are just another liberal indoctrination academy

They don’t play mighty MS State, South Carolina, or Kentucky and an FCS powerhouse like East Texas A&M.

Whoever signed that MOU opposite of ND held all of the cards. What’s ND going to do if you tell them to pound sand? Not play football?
If the entire thing WASNT corrupt as hell, why would they agree to this?
