Supposedly caffeine has anti-cancer properties.

Saw them at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley in the late 80s. Their shows at the Greek were always strong.

Weir was a longtime fitness buff who would go for runs while touring. I also read that he stopped taking acid in the late 60s during the 710 Ashbury St. days.

re: Rocky Marciano vs Muhammad Ali (1970) computerized "SUPER FIGHT" (full w/interviews)
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 1/8/26 at 3:45 pm to Boodis Man
Marciano knew that if he stayed active he would eventually have to deal with Liston. Not in ‘56 or ‘57, but down the line. The era of the sub-200lb heavyweight champions was over after Patterson. I saw Sonny Liston sign a contract to fight Eddie Machen at a televised Seattle Rainier baseball game around 1961. Liston won and the rest is history. Liston was not just a big puncher, but also a clever boxer.
I remember seeing Ali win the gold medal in the 60 Olympics.
Ali and Marciano became good friends and were planning a goodwill tour in America to create racial harmony.

Marciano retired because he knew he had no chance of beating a younger, stronger Sonny Liston.
Marciano was also in awe of Ali’s hand speed. There has never been a boxer who trained as hard as Rocky M. He trained everyday for 8 years. He would run 8-10 miles in the morning, went to the gym in the afternoon and then did 10 miles of fast walking in the evening. By the time he retired his body was broken down from the excessive training.

Williams put up big numbers against weaker teams. Did not shine against top teams.
re: Washington might pursue legal action against QB Demond Williams (update)

I followed Williams’ career over the past two seasons. He played well against weaker teams, but underperformed against the better teams.
re: How much creatine to take every day?
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 1/3/26 at 2:09 pm to lsu777
Dr. Jerry Mixon of the longevity clinic in the Seattle area is a proponent of creatine. However, he has said those over 50 should take no more than 3-4 grams per serving. Too much creatine can raise creatinine levels.

The Fairmont Hotel is pretty upscale. I wonder if Tommy was supporting her.
re: Change my mind - 1950s California was the peak human experience

The 50s were great, but so were the 60s and 70s, despite the sensational events-Manson and assorted other devils.
I lived in the Bay Area from the late 70s to 2005. Even the 80s, Los Angeles was still in peak form and more affordable. Benign neglect ruined California. It has never worked as a policy.

re: Caesar’s Superdome>>>>> Rose Bowl
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 1/2/26 at 11:35 am to ChestRockwell
The Rose Bowl Game has a uniqueness that is unmatched by the other bowl venues. Domed stadiums are sterile.
I do agree with those who are sick of the reverential hype, but the Rose Bowl game is an event with a large viewership for both the parade and game. TV ratings tell the story.

re: Anyone else laughing about the monsoon at the Rose Bowl?
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 1/1/26 at 11:14 am to ChestRockwell
SEC fans are easily triggered by the mere mention of the Rose Bowl game.Yes, the Rose Bowl does have poor sight lines and is isolated from the Pasadena commercial district. But for TV viewing it is a better game in my opinion and tends to draw a larger audience of viewers who have no partisan interest in the outcome. The Sugar Bowl with Ole Miss and Georgia is more like a conference game and will lose the ratings war with the Rose Bowl. It’s all about the TV audience.

Never understood those who hate the Rose Bowl game. The game draws more viewers than the other major bowls. There have been many epic games played at the Rose Bowl. I have been watching since the 1960 game when my Huskies obliterated highly favored Wisconsin 44-8.

Bardot was a sun worshipper. Decades of sub exposure did a number on her skin.
re: After watching the Indiana versus Ohio State game, I’m convinced
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 12/27/25 at 11:52 am to Gideon Swashbuckler
This year it appears to me that the SEC is the best conference top to bottom with solid non-playoff teams like Arkansas, LSU and Texas. I do believe that the top 3 teams in the Big 10-Indiana, Ohio State and Oregon are better than the top 3 in the SEC-Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia.

I cash in coins at Coinstar twice a year. Inevitibly, there are always some Canadian coins that are rejected. Being relatively close to Canada might have something to do with it.
re: Notre Dame-USC rivalry coming to an end
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 12/22/25 at 4:05 pm to GentleJackJones
The USC Trojans will have the number one recruiting class coming in for 2026. The class is rated the highest of any class since the 90s when classes were first rated. How does this compute? It’s not like they are still a top 10 program at this time. Interesting to see how Riley performs with that level of talent.
