He was always the 1st one in and last one out. Sneaky athletic with deceptive speed and a high football IQ. Got the most out of his abilities and is someone that played the game the right way.

Reminiscent of Kansas City running back Joe Delaney who died in June of 1983 while rescuing some children from a farm pond.

Hillis was 1-3 vs LSU. McFadden was 1-2. Both of them were on the 07 team that beat LSU in double OT
They both should have been 2-1. The 2006 game in Little Rock is still the most abysmal QB play I've ever seen from a college starting QB.
Literal stat line from that game:
3-17, 29 yds, 1TD, 1 INT, 2 rush attempts for - 21yds.
Arkansas lost by 3 pts because they kicked the ball to Trindon Holliday...
Never seen so much talent squandered on one team by atrocious coaching.

LSU won 31-26 in 2006. We would have won even if Trindon had been tackled at the 25.

Hills had 4 touchdowns and 150 combined yards against LSU in 2007

That was a really good game. LSU played a great game.

A water rescue is a dangerous thing. So many cases where the rescuer ends up dead.
Always position from behind so they don't grab and drag you down by trying to climb on top of you.

"It’s just unfortunate how poorly trained we are overall as Americans to handle rip tides"
I hear you. My mom was raised in Pensacola and thus we were at my grandparents house a lot. We learned to swim at age 5. We were schooled on rip tides. By age 10 or 11 we used short rip tides to get out past the surf. I was very comfortable handling a rip tide. We used to get dropped off at beach.
Got married at 26. On honeymoon in St Thomas, my wife and I got caught in boundary riptide and I welled up with panic. We were tiring so quickly. It took about 1/2 minute or so for brain to click in and relax and let it take us out and and then swim parallel to shore. We got out of it but quite exhausted. I can't believe I panicked at first. Horrible experience and I should have predicted it before we got in.

I would never get near or let anyone I love near a drowning adult in deep water. I would of course do anything I could to get them flotation, which is really all they need.

You could swim parallel to the shore at any point to leave to the rip. You absolutely don't have to let it take you further out.

Saw an article that there is a prayer Virgil says he may have taken a turn for the worse.

If I remember what I read correctly, he started coughing up sand and they had to put the tube back in at 100 percent. Also his liver was failing I believe.
