it is extremely difficult to carry people in from ocean or a pool. Rip tides are very dangerous. I had to save my cousin from one when he was on a surfboard And I was swimming. I remember pulling him in from like 1/2 mile out and all he did was lay there in shock; wouldn’t even paddle and it was exhausting.

It’s just unfortunate how poorly trained we are overall as Americans to handle rip tides
When I went to New Zealand, it was taught to toddlers in generic swim lessons. When we went to the beach, kids would purposefully paddle into the rip tide so it would take them out to the deep waves quicker. Was wild to see. And if they got caught in one falling off their board, they calmly either swam out with it or to the side.

I'll never forget watching Hillis plow through New England in 2010. One of the most surprising arse kickings I can ever remember in the NFL.

“Here lies Peyton Hillis. He was on the cover of Madden 12”

I was a lifeguard instructor at LSU (UREC) and then GSU (CRI). Taught hundreds of classes. Even with a trained lifeguard, things can go wrong. We trained for it (how to escape a grab, how to fight the current, etc) but sometimes the stress and panic set in.
I will also say, more often than not, I would have someone fail the entrance swim (300 yards continuously, 2 minute tread, and a brick retrieval in a timed event). It would amazo me how many people who could not swim attempted to become lifeguards.

If I were him my Tombstone would be carved to look like the cover of Madden.

I’ll always remember him as part of the Arkansas three headed monster who ran all over us in 2007.
Not to be confused with the three headed Arkansas monster that ran all over us in 1993.

This is why I wear a life jacket when I go surf fishing in the summer. I may look like a pussy to all those baws out there, but I’m not going to drown over some fish.

Well, he definitely remembers losing to LSU 3 of his 4 years at Arkansas.

Matt Jones and McFadden ate us up, I don’t remember Hillis beating us bad in college. I just remember him that one season for Cleveland

Hillis was 1-3 vs LSU. McFadden was 1-2. Both of them were on the 07 team that beat LSU in double OT. Jones was 1-3 vs LSU with his lone win in 02 thanks to shitty coverage on back to back plays in the final seconds.

Getting the cover is a big deal.

I remember being a young kid and mocking people who wore helmets skiing. Now you mock someone who doesn’t.
I think lifejackets will slowly go that way. Hopefully.
