Great news, baw... only 4 long years ago the united states' attorney general sent a memo to fed prosecutors asking them to file for the death penalty in marijuana cases that met the weight/plant count requirements.

A 60 year old current teacher former diplomat for the State dept, got 14 years last week for bringing a vape oil to that same Russian airport. Had 0.6 ounces

Domestic abuser POS with no relevant skills other than being about as good as an average 3A High School center now has her employer and co-workers begging our government to exhaust time, money, and resources so that she can come back to a country that supposedly treats her like a 2nd class citizen

frick her. You don't illegally smuggle drug into a foreign country and then cry about it when you get caught. She lucky it wasn't an asian country or she might be facing death.

Uh, we did that for over 50 years. Ever hear of the War on Drugs?

Our prisons became overcrowded because over 50% incarcerated were non-violent offenders.

545,602 Americans were arrested for crimes related to cannabis in 2019, which is more than the total number of arrests for violent crimes.

We're slowly waking up to the disaster that was the War on Drugs but don't act like we weren't the world's leader in being obsessed with drug crimes because it didn't make the government money. (Except for Malaysia which just killed you.)

Regardless of how dumb it is, it's their rules. When you enter someone's home, it's just not wise to break the rules.

So you think she accidentally did this?

She broke the law and if you are being paid to play a sport in another country you should know and follow the law.

Now if the law said 5 years max and Russia gave her 10, that would be fricked up. Treating her as any other person isn’t fricked up.

Sorry some countries enforce rules

mean, she is clearly being used as a political prisoner right now. It isn't about her bringing a vape over the border.
They arrested her for breaking the law and are sentencing her like they do anyone else caught doing the same thing. She’s not getting special treatment.

Again, nobody to blame but herself. I have no empathy for someone who knowingly breaks other country’s laws because they think “it’s not that big of a deal” and then they’re shocked when the book is thrown at them

You will spend several years in prison there

Not agreeing with her political stances and also not agreeing with her being used a political pawn doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive folks.

You can not like her politics but be pissed that she’s being punished above and beyond because she’s an American citizen.

It's really a shame seeing this unfold. This certainly wouldn't be taking place if Trump was still President. I can't think of one person that has been impacted more negatively due to the Biden/Harris presidency than Griner.

Russia has dangled her out there as a political prisoner, so in that sense it's fricked up, but good lord why would a person ever bring drugs into countries like Russia?

I don't know the Russian laws, are they punishing her more than standard?
