We actually had a guy opt out back in 1988 when I was in high school. I was a Sophomore and , of course, the guy why opted out was a Senior. He was our best player, or had been the three previous years. He was really good, but was having by his standards a pretty bad Senior season. Once we were eliminated from making the playoffs he opted out stating he wasn't going to risk injury playing with this shitty team. I'm glad he did because I got bumped from 5th to his 3rd spot in the order and caught fire those last five games. Anyway, we called him for what he was which was a quitter. He ended up getting cut from the local JUCO team and never played again.

I agree with your post for the most part, but me thinks you are either naive or live in a glass house and have no business throwing stones.

Wait, Jayden Daniels is opting out?

If this is true, it's just more proof these players don't really care about the fans, the competition, or the game.

They care about themselves and “making paper” above all making all the fans who cheered for them look retarded and naive.

All these selfish-self centered fans calling all the bowl games meaningless or this game is meaningless and that one is meaningless that’s fine. The long term affects are going to ruin the college football game. The entire model built on tradition and history will be gone. It will be minor league football, it will essentially be travel ball or AAU. Kids jumping from team to team.

Eventually everyone will switch over to the NFL cause at least there you have contracts and can’t just jump from here to there. Perhaps this is all a master plan by the NFL.

i see where you’re going with this rebuttal, but it’s grossly ingenious.

As if the fans care about them. A portion of LSU s fan base spent much of last season and all off season calling for Nussmirer to play. Was upset when Daniels announced he was coming back

The fans do that anyway

You can’t live your life worrying about injury or bad luck. The chances of career ending injury in a bowl is incredibly low and using that as a reason is a cop out.

What about an injury that causes a guy to go from being a 1-2 rd pick to a 4? It's kind of ridiculous to view football through the same lens as half a century ago. The colleges make money off of the players and vice versa.

Maybe the sport shouldn't have gotten so greedy and diluted the games to the point of complete worthlessness.

I'm not going to judge a kid for protecting generational wealth for what is essentially an exhibition game. Bowl games outside of the playoffs are meaningless now.

You’re getting dragged by the usual suspects using the usual talking points. But you’re correct.

The amount of vitriol directed your way tells me your assessment has touched a nerve with some.

Nah, frick the NCAA and the crooked fricks that run CFB. If you have potential earnings based on your long term health, you sit.

Remember, these players were just told their entire season meant NOTHING because one player got hurt. Can’t have it both ways.

They quit in protest of the NCAA. I wish FSU would have shown up with nothing but walkons and student volunteers. When they participated fully, everyone gets to act like UGA outplayed them. They needed more opt outs after how badly they got screwed.
