Unrelated to trades but I read an article the other week (don't think it was on here but if it was then ignore me) about the blister issue
Basically multiple pitchers, Stroman was the one I remember being quoted, said they have never in their lives had blister problems until this year. Also said the only thing that makes sense is that the seams on the balls are different this year. Which would also be a perfectly reasonable explanation for the increase in homers as well, wouldn't it?
But Manfred said they'll be taking a closer look at the bats
ETA: here's the LINK of the story on The Ringer. Again, if it was discussed on here then ignore, but if not it could be an interesting thread

About half of the teams in the league have expressed some level of interest in Padres lefty Brad Hand, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union Tribune reports. Evidently, those discussions have yet to get truly serious, as Lin adds that the Friars aren’t believed to be closing in on any swaps

“What do we do without Jake deGrom next year?” he told reporters prior to the Mets win over the Rockies Friday night via the New York Post. “This is not a tear-down situation. This is what I believe is a sort of [hitting] the pause button.

“We’re looking to make sure we have the nucleus of a competitive team going into year," he said. "While we wouldn’t completely discount any possibility of a trade of that type, because who knows what may be presented, I don’t think enough would be presented for us to bite on that. Again, a lot of it has to do with how we view this team as we start thinking about next year as well."

I didn't read the article, but the only time I've ever paid attention to the seams is when there were no homers being hit in the NCAA, especially in Omaha.
At that time, it was openly discussed that the seams used were slightly raised, which would give pitchers more spin, thereby reducing the number of balls being squared up, but more importantly, created more wind resistance during flight.
It was said that the NCAA would be lowering seams the next season by using the same balls that were being used by MiLB. Whatever the difference, they seemed to have figured it out, b/c NCAA numbers the past 2 seasons have equilibrated nicely b/w hitters and pitchers.
So the talk about blisters kind of contradicts itself, IMO. Raised seams you would think cause more blistering, however would make it more difficult for hitters to get distance.

Yeah it's suggesting the seams were lowered

Interest in Martinez has been slow thus far, but seems to be picking up steam. The Arizona Diamondbacks are one team poking around, though talks are not serious yet according to Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi.

It's possible, and the Yankees are certainly interested, but they are hesitant to move their top prospects to get him. Guys like Clint Frazier, Gleyber Torres and maybe even a Justus Sheffield may be untouchable, but to get Gray it's likely going to take at least one of them to get Oakland's ace who tossed six innings of one run ball Friday night.
But according to FanRag Sports, that would be the hang-up in a trade between the two teams.

Here are a handful of notes on the Marlins, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Marlins bidders Jorge Mas and Derek Jeter won’t be joining forces, Jackson writes. Mas, the Miami billionaire, contacted Jeter weeks ago and asked him to join Mas’ ownership group (as Fan Rag’s Jon Heyman also recently noted). Jeter refused, however, because he wants to control both the baseball and business sides of the team despite only contributing a relatively modest $25MM of his own money. Jeter’s desire to control all parts of the team’s operations were also an issue when Jeter was previously part of a bidding group that included Jeb Bush.

The Marlins aren’t actively looking to trade Dee Gordon, but might deal him for the right return, Jackson suggests. A recent report from Heyman named the Royals, Angels and Blue Jays as potential bidders for Gordon, but indicated that the $41MM left on Gordon’s current deal might be a sticking point. Gordon is batting .291/.338/.353 in 380 plate appearances this season.
Neither righty Brad Ziegler nor outfielder Ichiro Suzuki plan to retire after the season, Jackson writes. Ziegler considered retiring before signing with Miami last winter, Jackson indicates. It’s not surprising that those retirement plans are no more, however, since he’s signed for $9MM next season. The 37-year-old is, however, in the midst of a terrible year, with a 6.52 ERA, 5.3 K/9 and 4.0 BB/9 over 29 innings. Ichiro would play in 2018 at the age of 44 and has a .220/.267/.294 line this year; Jackson suggests that Ichiro is unlikely to return to the Marlins next season, despite his plans to play

Seems like the Marlins are interested in trading Stanton. I don't know what is worse. Living in a city with no MLB team, or pulling for a team that refuses to keep its star players.

The Marlins have been very fortunate to have quickly parlayed talent into championships, then dumping that talent just as quickly.

The Rangers are not likely to trade or extend Yu Darvish, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News writes. A recent report indicated the Rangers would listen to offers for Darvish and Cole Hamels, and Grant doesn’t dispute that possibility outright

Padres lefty Jose Torres is receiving trade interest, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune tweets. The 23-year-old Torres has a 4.46 ERA and eight home runs allowed in his first full year in the Padres’ bullpen, but with an impressive 9.1 K/9, 2.2 BB/9 and 95.1-MPH average fastball velocity.

I would guess they are gearing up for Otani, but he's not coming to the wonderful Arlington if Darvish isn't here

Darvish is an idol for Otani.

Sandy Alderson's comments are hysterical. Claims to be in seller mode, but states he is only selling pieces that have expiring contracts. Not much to trade there.
He should hold deGrom out there for a Kings Ransom. Mets farm is nothing once you get past Rosario and Smith. They need a 3B but no one even close to MLB quality.
