I doubt any of Nick Saban's best Bama teams would cost as little as $50 million in today's environment, maybe $100 million give or take

This is where I’m at. Where’s your ROI financially?

You get to say you helped buy your team a championship at the next BBQ get together, but you don’t get any money back. How long does it last?

Might actually have real students playing if you took away all the bullshite and win-at-all costs approach.

Olympic sports going to club/intramural. And rightfully so. Volleyball teams shouldn’t be traveling across the country.

It’s funny how the only fans whinging and talking about “freeing up their Saturdays” are fans of programs who cheated the sport and now have to compete on an even level.

Auburn bought a Natty and are still crowing about it yet now that today’s version of Cam goes for 4 million instead of 200K they don’t want to watch. That’s fine. Stop watching. You will be replaced by fans of schools who now have a chance to compete by NOT breaking the rules. That’s really what chaps your backside that instead of just the usual 10-15 teams buying players that everyone can and Indiana just won a Natty by doing it and suddenly you want to free up your Saturdays. Welcome to the world where the 90% have been living in for decades while your teams bought up every 4 and 5 star.

How many fans show up to P.E. basketball games fully funded by a school? Or backyard games for that matter? Do people not enjoy sports without anyone watching? Of course they do.

I think State U. could justify outfitting Lewis and Gilbert for extracurricular purposes whether fans show up to watch or not. And if they won a game, I bet they would be excited about it regardless of who is sitting in the fricking stands. There’s plenty of glory and sense of accomplishment to be found in the arena.

What’s the ROI on having a steak dinner or buying a brand new vehicle or taking the family to the Sugar Bowl? We do a lot of things simply for the experience.

If some billionaire simply wants to see his alma mater win a natty, there’s no other reason needed.

I personally wouldn’t give a dime to NIL if I were Elon Musk, though. I strongly support the players in getting every dime they can get, but I am equally strong in the stance that none of those dimes will come from my pocket.

There's plenty of rich people who can no longer to afford to be even part owners of a NFL, NBA, NHL team but can absolutely become the top donor of their alumni.

Sorry you are so butt hurt about AU accomplishments. Auburn competed and won in the same environment with the same tactics being used by our opponents, and we do not need lectures on integrity when many other schools have used far more underhanded approaches.

The two things aren’t comparable though. A pro team is an asset that makes money. Being a top NIL donor is just lighting cash on fire. There aren’t even tax benefits.

I guarantee if you’re one of the biggest donors for a college team you’re figuring out a way to make it back somehow
