Yeah I don’t get it. Strahan was on top of him basically immediately. The RT is more the blame than Brett.

Gastineau was the 80's version of Antonio Brown. He was hated by everyone in the league and just took longer to go insane. He had a brilliant four year stretch and then hung on for a few more years. He tried boxing, had his early fights fixed, and got his arse beat by Alonzo Highsmith. He blames his health problems on football. Forget the fact he was a drug addict, He retired and then falsely claimed his wife had cancer (he later got actual cancer), went to prison for beating his 3rd wife, and is about as narcisistic as it gets.

And 1980's didn't play that shite.

Watch the whole play and listen to the commentary. It was a complete farce

Not defending Gastineau for acting like a toddler but he’s right that this was bullshite

Reminded me of that King of the Hill episode where the kid with the broken leg was allowed to break Bill’s high school TD record

Goomba taking about sack record pales in comparison to the potential of Derrick Thomas and a complete career.

From what other players are saying, it sounds like Mark was in fact a selfish prick..

Jared Allen also has a recorded 22 sack season.

He only had that sack total because the league started recognizing them in 1982. Deacon Jones has 22 sacks twice in the mid 60s, Al Baker has 23 from back in 1978

This

It technically wasn't even HIS record to begin with if NFL games were properly stat-tracked from the get-go or earlier than 1982 (as odd as that seems).

Even Harvey Martin had a 20 sack season in 1977 according to PFR that I had seen articles that said it's closer to 23.

What makes this confrontation even worse is even Gastineau's former linemates didn't like him

One other thing that is clear from that clip is that the other members of the Sack Exchange don’t like Gastineau.

30 For 30: The New York Sack Exchange

Think 30 for 30 is officially out of ideas

Also, doesn’t really matter: Deacon Jones is the greatest. He isn’t being mentioned because sacks wasn’t an official stat when he played

I remember at the time it happened, everyone was saying Brett ran the wrong play, kept the ball when he otherwise wouldnt have to give Strahan the sack. It was late in the game and the packers OLine had been owning Strahan after the build up to the game because of the sack record. Its why i feel more sorry for the Oline than anyone else. They played their asses off trying not to give up the record.

It's been way downhill since Simmons left. Maybe 4 or 5 have been good.
