Bo Jackson was well on his way to being a Hall of Famer in two major sports. He also set state HS records in Triple Jump and High Jump

Soccer is a real sport, and one that takes a ton of skill. Id say it takes more skill than basketball and football but less skill than baseball and hockey. And no one is saying Messi isnt great, or even the GOAT soccer player. But the the thread title states that he’s the greatest human athlete ever, which he’s obviously not. His athletic ability would literally be average of below average in the NFL. Devin White just ran a 4.42 40 at 237 lbs. Mike Trout is a physically more skilled human than Messi is when you consider how elite he is at everything on a baseball field. Being the greatest player and the greatest athlete of all time arent even close to the same thing, but that’s very obvious which makes it clear that this is a troll thread.

UNREAL

Lol. Sad that what is essentially a free throw in real sports are considered "unreal" in this 3rd world sport.

The guys you mentioned are great to elite in skill amongst a pool of players that percludes 99% of the population bc or physical attributes.

Messi is the best amongst a much greater pool. By a lot.

Sure their physical dominance over him matters and should be factored in. But you are talking about most skilled person out of the relatively small percentage of physical freaks mostly born in America vs the most skilled person out of the 3 billion or so men born outside of America.

To equate their tier of skill and move on to a physical tiebreaker is insane. It's not like physical freaks born outside or america are not playing soccer bc they are too big and athletic and thought they'd be a better laborer.

Messi being short in some ways makes it hard for me to call him the GOAT. In some ways it makes him better (like his balance for example) but his slight frame gets him boxed out a ton too

The frick is this? Messi is built like a tank. He's slowed as he's aged, but he used to be able to run through challenges. He doesn't get boxed out all that often, in all honesty. He's also a far better dribbler than Ronaldo, and his ability to hold and carry the ball is the key feature of his game. For Ronaldo, his movement without the ball is more important, as he's superb finding space and superb on the counter.

It might be, but soccer favors a certain type of athlete that's different from the more explosive sports. Messi is the perfect build for the type of soccer player he is. Messi is a once-in-a-lifetime player. He's so dominant at the top level for so long that I'm having trouble finding a modern equivalent. His statlines are incredible. It would be like a baseball player hitting 50 homeruns, 150 RBI's, bats .400 and steals 50 bases.

He's averaged double digit goals and assists in league play the last decade or so. That's beyond what other great players have done, including those that look like better athletes, like Thierry Henry, who would no doubt match up well to an NFL player in terms of speed, at least.

Wtf?

I can't tell if you're trolling or you think free kicks and penalty kicks are the same thing.

In about 25 years form now, we are all going to come to the realization that an Usain Bolt comes along about once every ten lifetimes.

We are more than ten years removed from Beijing, and I still can't believe what I saw. Somebody will break Cy Young's win total before a triple double happens again.

Barcelona was built 100% to support Messi.

Ronaldo has dominated everywhere he has been without a team purposefully built to support him.

Its like 1a and 1b, but much closer than that.
