It's like you aren't reading anything I wrote, and also, Inieta played in Japan and Xavi in Qatar after they left Barca.

I did read it, but they left like this year or last year. Its not like he didnt have them his whole career. You make it seem like he only had them 1 year when in fact he had them his whole career and now they were replaced by equally valued(although not performance wise) players.

Messi had his best seasons, statistically, when Xavi and Iniesta were in midfield.

Ok, so like 12 of Messi's 15 year pro career.

The guys you mentioned are great to elite in skill amongst a pool of players that percludes 99% of the population bc or physical attributes.

Messi is the best amongst a much greater pool. By a lot.

Sure their physical dominance over him matters and should be factored in. But you are talking about most skilled person out of the relatively small percentage of physical freaks mostly born in America vs the most skilled person out of the 3 billion or so men born outside of America.

Eh, soccer doesn’t really mean jack shite in the three most populous countries on the planet (and basketball is much bigger in two of them than soccer is) that together comprise nearly half the world’s population. Baseball has a reasonably wide global pool of talent as well.

Xavi left in 2014. A half-decade, like I said. And the fact they weren't replaced by players who could equal their performance is the point I've been trying to make.

Well, he can run faster, jump higher, has more power, and has better agility all the while being about 40 lbs heavier than Messi. Literally every way an athlete can be measured Trout is superior. Trout is just an example, he’s probably not the best overall athlete in MLB. He’s probably not a better athlete than the average NFL safety. You think Messi is a better athlete than Adrian Peterson in his prime? Than Ladian Tomlinson in his prime? Than Ed Reed? Than Troy Polamalu? Barry Sanders? Lebron James? He is more skilled, no doubt, but he’s not more athletic, and it’s really not even close.

When did NFL and NBA players come into this discussion between Trout and Messi? How does that validate your point whatsoever? Those are two entirely different sports. I’d never try and argue Messi is a better athlete than those players listed above. Is he a better athlete than Mike Trout? Absolutely.

I'd argue that cricket has a larger audience than baseball, due solely to the subcontinent being obsessed with it. It's also somewhat global in its appeal.

It probably is with the amount of viewers in the subcontinent.

I do think soccer’s “global” appeal is sometimes overblown. The EPL is definitely the most international league of any major sport and the World Cup gets astounding viewership, but soccer is primarily a European, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and African venture with some other countries (US, Japan, Korea) putting forth a decent amount of effort as well. In the fifteen largest countries in the world, it is the definitively most popular sport in only five of them (#5, 7, 10, 12, and 14), and only one of those countries is really a traditional powerhouse. Soccer just doesn’t play that big of a role in the immense South or East Asian population nuclei.

While true, most of its global appeal is during the World Cup, just as a spectacle. Otherwise it's a sport that most countries play with varying levels of interest.

China has invested a massive amount in its soccer infrastructure, so we will see if that can't spur growth in East Asia. The EPL especially is surprisingly popular in India, but that might be due to the sheer amount of people in the country.

Nobody gives a frick about fruity arse soccer. I can’t stand Americans who try to be edgy and cultured by “appreciating” watching a bunch of emaciated dudes from third world countries run after a ball for an hour and a half
