I get what the OP is saying, but I'd pump the brakes a bit on this. Washington won last night because Penix and his WRs looked phenomenal, his O Line was good, and their defense made some nice plays (ie they weren't the worst defense in football, like say LSU).

But that should have been a comfortable 20 point win, and he almost completely pissed it away. No reason for some of the gimmicks they did midway through the second half. Just playing straight up, they had basically broken the Horns and were walking away with the game. Instead, they fricking insulted Texas' pride, which was the only way UT would play hard at that point.
Then, with the game under 4 minutes, DeBoer should have shifted gears and ran the clock. Make them burn their TO's and push the game to a 2 possession lead again, and it's over. Instead he fricked around with pass plays that while if they worked would have been good, ended up stopping the clock for Texas.

Then the last possession was again a disaster. He finally decided to run clock... first play was a toss from the shotgun? That's probably the single play most likely to have a fumble occur. He then ran his RB (who, let's remember, ran the ball 21 times for under 50 yds) 2 more times. That's not going to get a 1st down against a Texas team KNOWING you're running. May as well kneel the ball, not risk a fumble (or, you know, an injury), and burn that clock under 20 seconds. Punt and play prevent for 2 plays, game over.

Dude, DeBoer is the real deal. Look at his record. The guy is a genius level coach. His skills in finding and exploiting mismatches in a defense are at least the equal of Kiffin and Sark. DeBoer is a hotter name in the NFL than he is in college football.

UW can be a “big boy” and has flirted with that in the past. They aren’t short on resources and a large passionate fanbase up there.

He’s never stepped foot in an NFL locker room as a player or coach. He’s been coaching for 25 years but has only been with Power 5 programs for 3 of those 25

He’s a great coach but there realistically can’t be much interest in him as an NFL head coach

I'd be surprised at him going NFL.

I do see eventually one of the BIG boys with unlimited money/resources (USC, Texas, Bama, Ohio State, etc) come calling

Does Washington have a good NIL collective?

Pretty decent. There was an article in the NY Times a few days ago that said the UW NIL budget is around $8M/year.

DeBoer's philosophy is to pay current players to stay, then productive portal players, then high school recruits in that order. So a lot of players came back another year because of that (Penix, Fautanu, Odunze), plus we picked up quite a few key transfers. The high school recruiting is going to be a tough road against teams like Oregon who are willing to pay recruits big money as well though.

I was told the majority of his roster is seniors

I like the coach but the UGA, BAma and LSUs send players to the NLF before they're seniors left and right

I think he’s the best coach in America not named Saban or Kirby

That's all fine and dandy, I'm just saying what I saw last night.

It's great to be a genius, but he needs to be smart enough to know when to shift gears. The prize is next week's game, dude dicked around and almost blew this one. And then possibly lost his starting RB for next week because he was too smart to have his QB kneel instead.

NFL teams are interested in DeBoer as a head coach. You will see.

I think A&M should buy out Elko’s contract and offer DeBoer half a billion for 10 years.

Penix is lights out and it’d certainly be reasonable to expect a drop-off next season but it’s not like DeBoer has been a middling coach who finally struck gold.

DeBoer has been getting things done wherever he’s been and I suspect he’ll continue to have Washington playing at an overall high level for as long as he’s in Seattle.

You mean the marginally effective QB from Indiana???

So your evaluation of this situation is that the coach who’s been a winner at every stop got better by teaming with the QB from Indiana

Looks like you attributed a quote to me that I had actually responded to myself.

As indicated in that response, DeBoer has been/is a very good coach and I suspect he’ll continue to do just fine post-Penix.

The people that are old enough to remember probably don't remember it that well, either.
