why wouldn't the chargers or raiders go after this guy with the quickness and why would he turn down either to stay at UW? NFL is actually less work than cfb as you don't have to deal with recruiting, NIL, transfer portal nonsense.

UW is a good job, don't act like it isn't. If they pay him why wouldn't he stay?

Hard to believe that Washington only won 4 games in 2021

if he wins you’re probably either gonna have to guarantee all of it or bump that number

What big boys...the NFL? There isn't any major openings in college this offseason and won't be unless Harbaugh leaves Michigan for the NFL

He’s already at one.

He can get to the playoffs where he is currently.

He has never been on the West Coast until Fresno State three years ago.

Hate to break it to you, but UDub is a big boy and kickers job.

If he wins a natty why would he leave UW?

The guy doesnt recruit at a high level, he gets "his guys". Fans at big jobs will lose patience with him because he wont be competitive in recruiting. Only Michigan would be okay but why leave UW for Michigan if the money is the same?

Why do you presuppose that UW is not in itself a major job?

He wins next Monday, he puts Washington as a player and UW will bump his salary. Plus, Seattle as a place to live is better than all but a handful of places

Washington would be foolish to let him go.

With UW in the Big 10 he’s already home. They can afford him and they would pay anything to keep him for more of this

His ascent has been absurd. 2 years at Fresno, 2 years at UDub and now he’s playing for a natty

He straight up whooped a far more talented and pretty well coached team last night

He struck gold with Penix. Will be interesting to see how they fare next year.

Ok, who is the biggest coaching hire UW has had in the last 30 years? Chris Peterson, the coach from Boise State. UW is a good job, but its not Tier 1.

I would stay there, but lets not act like this is OSU, Bama, or USC.

Did he strike gold, or turn him into gold? Penix had flashes at Indiana under DeBoer for a bit, but took off at UW. So did Jake Haener at Fresno State. I'd expect Will Rogers to flourish in this system as well.

None of which are open, which is the point. Someone next year is going to get to cash in at Florida. I wonder who they will target.

Outside of a retirement or NFL bolt by Harbaugh, that's the only foreseeable coaching lottery ticket on the horizon.

Seattle is like any other big city in the US in 2024, but the area around it, up around Snohomish and up in the mountains and on the water around Mukilteo and Whidby, is freaking gorgeous and the people in reality are 180 degrees removed from what most people at this place probably think. I’d have a place up there in a heartbeat if I could.

I get what the OP is saying, but I'd pump the brakes a bit on this. Washington won last night because Penix and his WRs looked phenomenal, his O Line was good, and their defense made some nice plays (ie they weren't the worst defense in football, like say LSU).

But that should have been a comfortable 20 point win, and he almost completely pissed it away. No reason for some of the gimmicks they did midway through the second half. Just playing straight up, they had basically broken the Horns and were walking away with the game. Instead, they fricking insulted Texas' pride, which was the only way UT would play hard at that point.
Then, with the game under 4 minutes, DeBoer should have shifted gears and ran the clock. Make them burn their TO's and push the game to a 2 possession lead again, and it's over. Instead he fricked around with pass plays that while if they worked would have been good, ended up stopping the clock for Texas.

Then the last possession was again a disaster. He finally decided to run clock... first play was a toss from the shotgun? That's probably the single play most likely to have a fumble occur. He then ran his RB (who, let's remember, ran the ball 21 times for under 50 yds) 2 more times. That's not going to get a 1st down against a Texas team KNOWING you're running. May as well kneel the ball, not risk a fumble (or, you know, an injury), and burn that clock under 20 seconds. Punt and play prevent for 2 plays, game over.
