re: Joe Montana: Dan Marino was better than me, he’s the best of all-time

Ridiculous - Marino made the playoffs like 5 times. Brady has more SB rings than Marino has playoff wins.

best passer maybe. not even close to best qb of all time. being humble enough to use a running game is a big part of being a great qb.

I'm glad they got this part right
Brady may be the greatest but Brees was better than him for much of his career til Brees arm fell off

Noodle arm Joe ain’t in my top 8. The Ultimate system QB. Very limited physical skills compared to the greats.

I agree Marino would break every passing record there is if he played in todays game.

Blame Shula for that. He had arguably the greatest arm in NFL history on his team, and he insisted on using it on every down, for better or worse.
The Dolphins really didn't have many good teams while Marino was there, but he made them more competitive than they should have been because he could make throws most guys still can't. And he hardly ever got sacked. Bruce Smith used to say Marino was the toughest guy to get on the ground, even though he was a statue in the pocket.

Now quarterbacks are the most protected they ever have been, and Montana can't help but wonder how dominant the best QB ever would be in this era.
I remember that hit on Brees which was a normal sack (Niners?) And he cried and got the penalty called. Jesus, these guys wouldn't have survived in the 80s. They just want to rack up yards, 7 on 7 frat league football.
Yep...Niners.
Couldn't get to the statue Marino, his release was insanely quick. He processed football, kept it simple...found the open man, quicker than anyone.

I’m just glad he didn’t say Elway. Marino was the best pure passer, but I’d still take Montana over Marino. And I hate the 49ers.

I saw a lot of Marino and Rodgers is the best pure passer I've ever seen.

Very nice thing for Montana to say, very gracious compliment. It’s also patently ridiculous. Marino never won anything in his life.

I can’t believe this is illegal. They can’t even fall on top of the guys anymore. Jesus Christ.

This is less about Dan and more about Joe throwing shade at Brady without making it sound like he is.

So that would make Joe the 2d best ever QB of Italian descent from Western Pennsylvania.
It’s absurd the amount of great QB’s that came out of Western PA.
Montana, Marino, Namath, Kelly, Unitas, Blanda. All in the hall of fame.

You mean they played in the era of 250-280lb Offensive and defensive lineman? Because that's what they did.

Marino played until 1999

Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time and its not even close. Just a ridiculous argument until someone has a better career
Of all the GOAT discussions, this one is the dumbest
It's Tom. And it will be for a long time more than likely
He did the most with the least. Him bringing a championship to Tampa was a exclamation point on his GOAT career

Honest assessment by a legend who is one of the best of all time.

He had same problem as Elway. Didn't have a running game to use. A serviceable defense but not good enough to win championships.
Marino was better than Montana, better than Brady. The difference with Elway is Elway got a coach at end of career who put together a complete team around him. Marino never had that as did Elway, Montana, and Brady.
I take Marino over everyone save Unitas.
