Close your eyes and imagine [insert Dan Marino, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Terry Bradshaw, Bart Starr] being drafted by the Saints in 1979, which certainly could have happened.

This.

That's not to take away from the talent and abilities of guys like Brady, Mahommes, etc., but the wide openness of the offenses today with the more restrictive rules of DBs pretty much makes passing and receiving numbers meaningless when trying to compare to other eras.

Look at the leaders in career passer rating. You have to get to Number 12 on the list, Steve Young, to have a player that started his career before 2000. Of the Top 20, only Young, P. Manning and Warner began their career before 2000.

Passing Yards per Game, Manning, Warner and Marino are the only names in the Top 20 who played in the 1900s.

Sure the game has changed but Marino trails Philip Rivers in career yards and career TDs.

Montana ranks 22nd on that list with Unitas at 23.

Eli Manning is 10th and Matt Ryan 7th. Vinny Testaverde is 16th.

Not a single QB stat or record since the turn of the century means much.

When speaking of talent when it comes to QBs, people only seem to mention arm strength, release, mobility, etc. nobody ever takes about performing under pressure…which is really the ultimate qb skill and separates good from great.

When you consider the skill of performing on the biggest stage in huge high pressure situations, it’s more than fair to say Brady is the most talented qb of all time

It's reasonable to judge a QB on career stats, it's reasonable to judge a QB on the leadership reflected by championships. But when you disregard both those things you're left with nothing but your signature emotional hysterics.

Side note: The PJ seal of approval is the perfect grace note to your flailing.

Todays crowd doesn’t fully appreciate how great Marino was. It was mesmerizing watching him in his prime. He had a habit of patting the ball before he threw it. I remember a DB saying one time if you saw him pat the ball it was too late. His release was so fast that you couldn’t recover

Do you remember the Elway cross?

Typical, you accuse me of what you’re doing. You have no frame of reference and are talking about something you haven’t witnessed or researched. Remember the 2021 Super Bowl, how TB was able to shut down KC by disrupting routes, getting into short passing lanes and put pressure with 4? Remember the Giants beating the Pats twice by rushing 4 and getting pressure, moving Brady off his spot? Difficult situations to both of those great modern QBs but a weekly occurrence during Marino’s era save an outlier here and there. You can’t properly evaluate the player because you’re totally ignorant to the difference in the game from then to now and of course you ignore his records which stood for 23 and 30 years while simultaneously crying “muh stats”. Do me a favor, go watch Montana’s comeback vs the Eagles in 1989 and ask yourself could any QB do that today and is that even the same game QBs are playing today.

Elway never had to deal with his mascot being stolen or being kidnapped by a tranny kicker.

Dan Marino threw LAZERs all over the field. He very well could have been the best QB to ever do it.

Today’s crowd doesn’t fully appreciate how good Montana was. When he retired, I was fully convinced I’d never see a quarterback better. There have been some greats after him, but he was amazing

Saw a guy wearing this jersey at the SF-Miami game last year and had to get a pic.

They didn't call him Joe Cool for nothing. His game-winning drive against Cinci in the SB was ice cold. The John Candy story that accompanies it makes it even better.

It would be like Drew Brees passing for 10,000 yards in a season. That's how monumental Marino's 1984 season was with 5,084 yards.

I mean Jameis Winston passed for 5,109 yards in 2019.

Of the Top 25 NFL Passing Yards Single-Season Leaders...only Marino's (#12 ranked) season occurred before 2008. That's how crazy the game has changed.
