Feels like the media has already decided to give it to Misiorowski, with Sale having the 2nd best odds to win. Miz is 12-5, playing for a team that's 29 games over 500. Sale is 12-8, also playing for a team that's more than 20 games over 500. Meanwhile, Chase Burns is 14-2 playing for a Reds team that's 5 games under 500 and he's 50-1 to win the Cy. Miz is impressive as hell and fun to watch, but since when are wins and losses not a factor?

ERA

Misiorowski 1.75
Sale 2.16
Burns 2.47

How much run support are they getting?

I get it all pitchers want to win, but it’s a team sport

Since it was discovered that it’s the absolute worst way to determine how good a pitcher is

You’re an unathletic low test slob who doesn’t even understand how pitcher wins and losses work. Back to the bedroom, Herald is waiting to film you and your tranny husband.

ERA seems like a pretty decent way to look at it unless a pitcher just has a bunch of defenders behind him with really shitty range.

Season remains to be played, but are two additional wins really that relevant when one guy is clearly better in virtually every category.

Being able to win games 5-4 when you don't have your best stuff is more important then losing games 1-0 when you do.

What if you don’t have your best stuff and lose 4-0. Where does that rank

Miz and Sale also have more strikeouts, fewer walks, and lower WHIP than Burns.

I think Burns' odds are more to do with the season the Miz is having opposed to a slight on Burns. Miz is beating him is pretty much every category.

It is an individual award. Wins are more of a team stat. Burns is getting the 3rd most run support (per 27 innings) of any starting pitcher. He's getting a full run more per game than Sale and 1.5 more than Misiorowski.

Wins should factor in. But it shouldn't be the biggest factor in an individual award

I’ll go a step further… a pitcher shouldn’t get credit for a win or loss if unearned runs affected the outcome

He shouldn’t get credit for a win if the offense scored 7+ runs, and shouldn’t get a loss if his team scored 0 or 1

And you must pitch 6 innings for a win as a starter. A reliever must pitch 2 innings. Any pitcher who doesn’t get that in a game, the win shouldn’t be awarded

Wouldn't WHIP be better than ERA to determine the best pitcher?

No, it's whoever the writers vote for. That's it.

The award is Misiorowski’s to lose at this point in time. He had the complete game one hit Maddux in June. He’s touching 105mph, his Cy Young moment came on Saturday when he struck out both Freeman and Ohtani on 7 pitches with the bases loaded and overall he wasn’t locked in during that start. He’s getting all the attention as his starts have become must see TV. That’s who will get the votes.

A no hitter with him is almost inevitable at this point.

No, there’s really no one stat to determine best pitcher.

To determine best pitcher, you’d need to evaluate strikeout rate, walk rate & hard hit rate.
