Is she really that much better than everyone else?

Her mental health is suspect, but physically, she's possibly the most talented athlete in women's sport history.

It always is! I’m so glad they no longer have a team of mostly teams who are little soldiers.

Hats off to the crowd in MN, they brought a lot of energy. And hats off to everyone in this thread. Been a good Olympic Trials.

This was my post, but she deserves I go even further. I can't think of a male athlete that was more dominant in his sport either. She's further ahead of her peers than either Jordan or Phelps was even.

Do the male gymnasts look like little nerds to anyone else

Back in the day male gymnasts used to be big tough dudes

It will be great experience for Joscelyn and she’ll have the next cycle. She needs to work on her execution scores a bit.

Male gymnasts were never big tough dudes. They have a lot of muscles, but most that I’ve known were 5’5” of shorter.

You really see the age difference going from Suni and Jordan then to Hezly. She is young. But, she handled the pressure and earned her spot. She'll be fine. Rest of the team has an enormous amount of experience and will help her.

Yeah - she took advantage of that automatic qualifying thing last time, but it always seemed like she wanted to be part of Team USA. Now she gets her shot.

One last post for me now that Trials are complete. We have about 3.5 weeks till gymnastics opens up at the Olympics. Thanks again for everyone that contributed to the discussion.

To help out Hezly, here is the experience of her four teammates.

Simone Biles (only member of team born last century) - 37 medals at Olympic or World level
Jade Carey - 8 medals at World or Olympic level
Jordan Chiles - 4 medals at World or Olympic level
Suni Lee - 6 medals at World or Olympic level
Total - 55 medals at World or Olympic level, with a combined 16 appearances at Worlds or Olympics.

Being overly optimistic, I think this team comes away with 14 medals in Paris, with gold in team. With the Russians not there, a lot of additional opportunities open up.
Simone - vault, floor, beam, all-around, team
Suni - team, bars, beam
Jade - team, floor, vault
Jordan - team
Hezly - team, beam

US sweeps beam and nearly sweeps vault and floor, but Andrade is probably going to medal in both of those.
