Sacramone and the laptop, backpack, and magic algorithm headed to the back for the selection making.

I’m pretty sure she will. The 4 veteran Olympians and someone else. Who had the best beam?
Posted on 6/30/24 at 9:24 pm to LaLadyinTx
Rivera now 5th place and Roberson 6th. I'm guessing that Rivera, Roberson, Wong are going to be the 5th spot + alternates.

Of those 3, the one with the best beam average score of trials and national makes the team.

It's hard to pick this team, I can't imagine how much more difficult it would be if Shilese, Kayla, and Skye were out there.
Feel like it would be Simone, Shilese, Skye, Suni, and then would be up in the air for the last spot. Probably Jade.

Live update from nbc website:
Who won the battle for the fifth spot?
Kaetlyn Liddy
Rivera, Sumanasekera, Roberson and Wong were the top contenders for the fifth spot ahead of today's competition.
Rivera finished fifth in the all-around and won the balance beam, so she has the edge when it comes to the numbers.
However, Olympic selection can be unpredictable. It will ultimately be up to the selection committee to decide whether to take Rivera, who is not only young but relatively inexperienced, to Paris.
I'm guessing about 10 minutes or so, maybe less, and the team announcement will begin.

Has to be Hezly especially with how she looked on that last Beam routine.

I think they should go with Roberson…

Why do you think they should go Roberson? Numbers definitely give it to Hezley. Quite often, younger girls feel less pressure and do very well.

After Day 1 I thought it would be her.
Some commentators said US team needed strong floor and vault and that's where she would fit, so I assumed she'd get the nod. But the beam may be a big deal here.

He wants her because she’s white

Beam is certainly where they are lacking. They’ve got floor and vault well covered.

I believe they said Roberson had the 2nd highest degree of difficulty on beam…so her ceiling is higher than Hezly. I would go with Roberson…

My wife is watching the Olympic trials and did I hear it right that the team isn’t selected by the scores from the trials alone but from consistency and talent as determined by the judges/comittee?
Also, in the end the scores of 2-7 were separated by 1.3 points, but biles was >5 points ahead of #2. Is she really that much better than everyone else?

Pretty obvious, but I wondered if he’d admit it.
Alexsei, the tramp guy, trains in Youngsville. His dad is one of the coaches there. They have some competitors at the top every year. I wonder how they ended up there?

Yes. She’s the clear 1.
Shilese is a clear 2 IMO, but hurt, then Skye is probably 3.
And I think they don’t want it solely based on this when there are other things like Nationals they can take into consideration but I’m not positive of that.

Yes, they don't have a strict formula. Scores matter a lot but they have to look at things to determine if there's some sort of outlier or anomaly. They also have to look at best possible score on each event and put things together in that way, to maximize the team score.

She's that good. These scores cover two days, so cut the margin in half. But yes, she is able to do things with so much difficulty that her scores outpace the others by a lot.

Yes, y’all heard right. It’s pretty much the most subjective selection in all Olympic sports.
And yes, Biles difficulty is off the charts compared to any other gymnast in the world. They created whole new categories (j skills) for things that she is the only gymnast in the world to do. Her power is unbelievable. She actually has to hold back. Imagine if she and her football hubby have kids..what genetic athletic ability will they have?

Carly Patterson was extraordinary on beam. I'm still salty about 92 and Shannon Miller not winning All-Around, but Gutsu was a phenomenal gymnast.

Jordan’s energy is on a different level…lol
