Good for Fred beating Brody. Thought Malone was dominant at Nationals.

Surprised about Stephen, but I guess with Khoi not being on the team we really need pommel.

Seems like a solid team. Overall I think they'll represent the US well.

USAG announced that Shilese is definitely out tomorrow. In the span of 48hrs or so the US lost 3 gymnasts, all of whom would make the squad for any other nation on the planet. And they are still likely to have Simone, Suni, Jordan, Jade, and Joscelyn - all Olympic or World team gold medal winners, with multiple Olympic and World gold medals on individual events.

I made comments on some youtube videos that the US was stacked with talent and people acted like that was a preposterous comment. Well, down 3 huge talents, I think the US will still be the heavy favorite for team gold. We'll see how it all shakes out tomorrow.

They have a therapy dog at the Trials. I think he's really there just because people like dogs, so I guess he roams around during practice sessions, warmup etc.
Couple Olympic champions here, and the dog, Beacon.

He was at Nationals as well. They have a little section where they do something with him like toss him the ball before they announce who wins everything (in this case going to the Olympics).

He’s terrible at it, but he is adorable

NBC right now. 1500M women's is about to start and there are a handful of them who are straight up smokeshows.

Aly is a big dog lover. I've seen some videos where she's talked about that. I love dogs. Having them around seems like a good idea to me.

Don't see how they will keep Jordan off this team. Solid, consistent and seems to thrive as the stakes get higher.

NBC's coverage gets worse over time. Gymnastics is already done with the first rotation and NBC is still on track. All of these events and the coverage could be synchronized but NBC won't do it.

Hezly Rivera is good and not many people know her name. Rotation 1 is complete.

Suni's bar routine. Excellent and she really nails the landing. Crowd (basically her home town) goes nuts.

It’s worse every Olympics. Truly a dreadful production. Should sell their rights to Apple.

I feel like Hezly isn’t that great at anything outside of bars, but she’s really solid at everything.

wow, Suni just fell on beam. That's tough. In the 2008 Olympics, Alicia Sacramone did the same. It was tough to watch. She took it hard. Chellsie Memmel was on the team and injured, and she may have been on the beam instead if not for the injury. Alicia and Chellsie are basically the ones in charge and picking the team now. Both understand what the gymnasts are dealing with. The 2004 selection was notorious for being a clown show and they both had to go through that, iirc.

Sacramone was affected by that fall and went on to have some miscues on floor and she felt like it was the reason they got silver instead of gold in the team comp. In an interview she was like, "well, no one else made mistakes." It's an unforgiving sport. Small errors produce big deductions.
