I feel like Hezly isn’t that great at anything outside of bars, but she’s really solid at everything.

Yeah, I think she had one event being top 3 on Day 1, but all of her scores are solid. Curious to see where she's at on the next score update.

Big beam score from Rivera, she jumps in front of Joscelyn Roberson in the all-around score after two rotations.

I'd like to see gymnasts return to this type of music. Seems to go with the movements better, but a lot of the gymnasts these days are looking for stuff that sounds more modern. I get it, but I don't think they're finding things that sound better, for the most part.

Just getting around to reading this thread, although I’ve watched all of trials. You can hang it up on the wishing old (62) and I like both. I actually adore Simone’s floor music as it fits her well. As the women are now generally much older than they used to be, they get more input. They want something fun. A lot of them have done NCAA as well and want that story music. I think more than the music, you’re missing the style of gymnastics, with more real dance, prettier floor routines. Nastia was about the end of that. Today’s code doesn’t reward it enough that someone can win with that style. So we get a bunch of spectacular tumbling passes with a double or triple wolf turn they fall out of and a bunch of connected leap jumps.

She has a 3.5 pt lead. Top score is automatic. She's going to Paris.

Biles falls on beam and still has an above average score. Her difficulty and execution give her a lot of buffer for stuff like that.

I’d bet that all 4 former Olympians are going to Paris. Everyone seems to be a little off tonight but Jade. But she’s Miss Consistent. Not the most dd, but always solid.

Also, all Leanne Wong’s landing on floor looked like they hurt. Achilles killers.

This is one part I don't like. I hope there is less influence from NCAA, not more. NCAA has a lot of dancing, like club dance moves - it's not artistic. Club dancing is trendy and it goes away, with very few exceptions. Good for the energy in NCAA, but not good for the elite, international level, IMO. Art lasts. The balletic stuff and classical music survives for centuries and decades because it's art. Never thought I'd say that, but after looking at old routines compared to newer ones, the old ones have staying power.

Every time the girls talk about wanting new and modern, rather than old and classical, I think about how this hair used to be thought of in the 80s, and how it's thought about now.

NBC is awful. I think the announcers are great. I just think their coverage in all sports is a struggle.

Earlier, they couldn’t even show all the bar routines from the side. One of them was at an angle. You couldn’t even tell if they hit their handstands.

She's had a good Trials. I keep wondering if they can do ultrasound of these achilles periodically to see a pending rupture.

It would take an MRI I think. Ultrasound def wouldn’t do it. I think some of those injuries are just the way they land. Wong was gorgeous on floor, but slightly short landings really hurt.

Anyone know where Jocelyn went before transferring to WCC? WCC makes sense for her with her power and body style. Gyms definitely all have a “style.”

And Jordan falls on beam. That's 3 tonight, and I think all 3 on the same side. I always wonder if this equipment ever gets knocked off balance or unsecured sometimes.

I'm guessing she was at the local gym. This is all I could find. I remember some interviews of her talking about this, but this is all I saw on the internet.

“Being in Texarkana by myself, the only Elite – the next level was a Level 9, so it was hard for anybody to understand what I was doing and what I was going through,” Roberson said. “When I moved here, I had five or six girls going through the exact same thing… It’s really good to have somebody to lean on when you’re having a hard day because they know what you’re going through and they can understand it.”

Simone is done with floor, her 4th event and that is probably her last Olympic Trials, probably last non-Olympic routine ever.

I don’t know about knocked around. But I know the girls sometimes had beams they didn’t like very much. When my daughter (no pics) was a gymnast, they were not allowed to train on the same beams all the time. They do feel different. But that’s why they have podium training.

Simone killed it on floor! Her body style would never be able to make the old fashioned dancey routine look good. She has had more power in the tips of her toes than pretty much all the others since she was a 6 year old level 4.
