STFU.
You guys are the reason we have a mental health crisis in this country.

Her mental health is suspect, but physically, she's possibly the most talented athlete in women's sport history.
There is no place for nuance on here.

We all know you're a racist. Now you're just being overt about it.
And you're damn right I'm going to defend her. Black, white, yellow, color doesn't matter. She's the unquestioned greatest and most decorated gymnast who's ever lived. And yes, I'm including Nadia in that. She struggles with mental health, as does a good number of my people in this country and pricks like you and Tiger Ryno who poke fun at her struggles is why we have such an epidemic. We don't take it near as serious as we need to.

She is by far the best gymnast I ever. And it’s not really close. Her race should nothing to do with it… when you are the best, you are the best…. Plain and simple….

Exactly.
But unfortunately there are a couple of posters ITT who make it about race. Unfortunately.

shite didn’t realize the Russians weren’t gonna be there. Once our girls starting dropping like flies, I just about conceded the gold to them. I guess our only competition is China now.

She credited her therapist last night that she meets with every Thursday for helping her a ton in this comeback process.
Seems like someone who is trying to improve her mental health. For some reason people have a problem with that?

It’s not the mental health part that bothers me, it’s the fact that she knew going into it that she wasn’t mentally strong enough, but she decided to put the entire team at risk and in the end, hurt us. It was all about her and the entire team paid for it

If it were all about her then she would have never dropped out in the first place.

Exactly. She was feeling a little weird about everything during trials, but it came out fine, so she didn't have a reason to think it would be worse at the Tokyo games. Then she got there and it really hit. But it didn't completely hit till she competed that first vault, was lost, and significantly watered it down. I think she was really impacted by the lack of her family and support system. If you've never been to a meet, there's usually a lot going on and it's not quiet at all. At the big meets that Simone has been attending for many years (the only actual meets she competes in), it's loud! There's tons going on. Pandemic hits and it's got to be super quiet at that meet. It's very weird for gymnasts when things like that change and I"m sure it impacted her. By the time she new how bad it was, it was too late to get out of the team competition.
As I've said about 100 times on this board, not a soul in the gymnastics world thinks she as wrong to leave the competition. The way her mind was working, doing tricks was extremely dangerous. It seems like many would have like her to continue and crash, complete with bad injuries. Yeah, then she wouldn't have quit. I bet people would be surprised how many high level athletes see a sports psychologist. Even high school and junior high kids do, if they are committed and have issues. Bring on the down votes on something you have no clue about!

Good for her. Everyone, regardless of their mental health status, should talk to a therapist at least once a year IMO.

Because the large majority of people are assholes.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree.

What you have to understand is that people who watch gymnastics once every four years no more about this than people who live and breath the sport every day

That goes for the MSB in general.

You wouldn't be saying that had she been paralyzed because she didn't step down and wasn't in her right frame of mind due to the "Twisties"

I think what's not mentioned here is that if she would have withdrawn after the vault, went home, and took care of herself the overwhelming majority of her critics would have moved on at worst and nodded respect more than likely.
What frustrated people about her. And admittedly myself as well, was that she hung around and kept drawing attention away from her teammates, and what threw people over the edge is when she let the media go forward with stories that after withdrawing from team events she was strongly considering still competing in the individual events.
That was the last straw for most of her critics. She was too fricked up in the head to compete for her team but was just fine to go compete for herself.
The internet did what it does and brought out the worst in people, but it was a legitimate criticism.
