Oh no my entertainment was artificially entertaining.

And another thing, The Cardinals don’t have two decades of success without him. Yes, they went back to the postseason in 1996, but they still weren’t drawing enough revenue as they used to when Gussie was still around until McGwire showed up in late 97.

If you couldn’t tell those guys were juicing, well then that’s on YOU for being retarded. I did a book report on steroids in the 5th grade, and my 11-year-old self could tell in 1989 that those A’s Bash Brothers teams were juiced out of their minds. Unless you were a small child, I truly question the intelligence of anybody who saw what was happening that ‘98 summer and couldn’t tell they were all juicing.
That is what I’ve never been able to stomach with Selig and the sports media, specifically the baseball writers. Either they knew at the time and were complicit because it was good for business all around and lied about not knowing (likely) or they were genuinely surprised and simply stupid and incompetent. Either way, their outrage—whether faux or real—has no ground to stand on and they are/were unfit for their jobs. And their self-righteous outrage disgusts me infinitely more than the steroid users ever could. #longlivesummerof’98

Didn’t McGwire even say during that time he was using Andro?

I remember that Summer as a 10 year old... every time we played wiffle ball you had kids imitating each slugger’s swing
I had the white/ red Oakley sunglasses Mcgwire would wear and also had his replica 1st base glove too, that was my primary position.. and i wore #25...
damn there's some nostalgia there

McGwire hitting the Budweiser sign in Jacobs Field is one of the longest home runs I've ever seen. I know people who were at that game and one of them said when he hit the ball it sounded like being in close proximity to a shotgun blast.

the biggest shame out of that whole season is that everyone forgets Griffey being tied for the lead with 37 without juicing like the other two losers

Yes. When he was nearing Ruth’s record.

That was an amazing summer.
Full Game: Cardinals/Cubs at Wrigley Field 8/19/98
They started the day tied at 47. Sammy hits one to go up 48/47 then Big Mac hits 48 in the 8th and 49 in the 10th to win it.

I believe a reporter saw it sitting in his locker and the media ran with it. I was in 10th grade at this time and everyone on the baseball team had to go out and get some Andro because it was of course the best thing ever for working out.

I'm no fan of cheating. But are you implying these are the only 2 that cheated? If we all take your stance, might as well wipe 15+ years off the face of baseball history.

What a loser
Sports is about entertainment. I don't give a shite if one or all of them are on steroids. I just want to be entertained.
Let them all juice up.
I also didn't give a frick about the Astros "scandal", though.

I was 16 that summer. Took a trip up to Wrigley in May and saw Sosa and the Cubs square off against Barry Bonds and the Giants. No homeruns were launched and the game was fairly bland. Sat in left field and gave Bonds shite. Sosa looked like a MAC TRUCK running out to right. About two weeks later was when he started his incredible June of 20 bombs.
The cubs were my best friend’s favorite team, so I called him collect from the grandstands on a payphone at Wrigley Field. His dad was pissed, that ended up being about a $12 phone call.
Got to see McGwire the next summer in 1999 blast one out of old Busch Stadium.

There's nothing to celebrate about 1998 and it almost feels dirty just watching those HRs now. Like CGI dirty
Does anyone really care that baseball players are juicing?
Sportswriters are the worst. 260# linebackers in football are running 4.6-4.7 40s and not a peep from the sportswriting world. You let one Dominican shortstop piss hot and we get endless screels about "The sanctity of baseball is ruined!"
