The Last Dance" docuseries will come to a close on May 17, but fear not, sports fans. Another 1998 Chicago documentary is on its way.
Tuesday, ESPN announced it will premiere a 30 for 30 documentary chronicling the 1998 NL home run race between Cubs' and Cardinals' sluggers Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire. "Long Gone Summer," directed by AJ Schnack, will debut on June 14 at 8 p.m. CT.
Sosa and McGwire are credited with reinvigorating interest in baseball after fans grew disillusioned following the 1994-95 strike. Summer 1998 saw the sluggers battle to break Roger Maris' single-season record for home runs (61, 1961), with McGwrie ultimately coming out on top (70-66).

God, this would've been a great watch if we didn't know what we know now.
There's nothing to celebrate about 1998 and it almost feels dirty just watching those HRs now. Like CGI dirty.
And then seeing Mac hug the Marris family like he's some honorable dude paying homage.
Only interesting thing about these two frauds is if in the documentary they explain how Sosa became white.

Name a more fun year for MLB than 1998.

You a big fan of these guys and cheating the public for a summer?

No fricks. That was a special year.

I mean, plenty of dudes were juicing back then and none of them gave the excitement of having ESPN do split screens of both at the plate at the same time some nights, breaking into any game they were showing to show their at bats, etc.
Why do you give a shite of they juiced?

Nothing to enjoy about reliving being hoodwinked.
They were fake and frauds and apparently not even comfortable in their own skin.
Why watch a documentary on Syphillis? frick these guys. I hope the documentary mostly focuses on how we were all taken for a ride.

The summer of 1998 might have been the greatest and most memorable season in sports history with the Last Dance Bulls, the World Cup, and the Great HR chase between Sosa and McGwire. It was just three months of absolute magic.

A very young Jack saw Mark McGwire hit a dinger into Big Mac Land at the old Busch stadium.

I love it. I was all for McGwire. Saw him play that year against the DBacks in Bank One Ballpark.
