Without his last name arch would have been a run of the mill 3 star guy.
But he has the last name. And that will carry him pretty far in the draft provided he has a good season.

It’s honestly unfathomable at how bad the Cleveland Browns are at getting a QB.

No, but it is stupid or desperate from the Browns standpoint. Take a guy who has had 2 Achilles surgeries over a kid who is maybe not as good as we thought.
Who thought he was good enough to begin with?

Statistically, some of these guys would have had to have been good with another franchise (well, we know this for a fact with Baker).
Obviously its the franchise not the QBs overall

How bad is the Browns situation?
The Browns are the Browns for a reason. Worst record in the league with positions of need all over the field, but hey....lets draft 2 QB's and neither of which were viewed as potential franchise QB's going into the draft. Well, except Mel Kiper who thought Shedeur was already on his way to 1st ballot HOF

Sunk cost fallacy is strong in Cleveland. The odds of Watson turning things around are almost zero. They'd be way better off just letting Sanders and Gabriel sink or swim. At least they actually want to develop. Watson is clearly just doing enough to cash checks w/o being hassled by the league.

Not only did they make Watson the starter, but they had a player that would rather play in college than make their team leave to go play at LSU

Luckily for Watson the first two games are on the road.
Only way this makes sense is if they are conceding those two games off the bat and will let Watson get his arse kicked for a couple of games and then bench him in time for Shedeur to get a ton of love from the fans in the home opener.

Browns need to take the hit and cut him. They're gonna have to pay him regardless, but he's an absolute cancer.

This is just as much bullshite as anything that Deion has ever done regarding his kids.

Evidently the Browns get some salary cap credits if Watson misses time due to injury.
Yahoo article
Might be one of the only things that makes sense here since if he was named the backup it's less likely he goes to IR. I don't think the union would be too kind if the Browns were too overt with hoping one of their players get hurt so they're not going to admit to something like that but I wouldn't be surprised if this was secretly part of the calculus being named the starter.

The Browns are fricked regardless, IMHO. Probably will remain so as long as Haslem owns the team.

This doesn't make sense. They are going to pay him either way. It doesn't make a difference if he plays or not.
You seem uninformed. Have you looked into the cap hit that they would incur if they cut him?

Wouldn't they have started Shadeur instead for that? Or are they waiting for the active tank later in the season for that?
I think Watson is even worse

Browns have too much capital tied to Watson to not give him a shot though
Watson is probably never returning to form but it definitely won't happen there with how toxic the situation is. Starting him, especially after that press conference, is antagonizing your fans.

wanna bet?
he had an incredible td to int ratio in his last 6 or so games, if he does that all year I can promise you,he will be in the discussion. hes a manning.
