Regarding Barry's line.....two all pros blocked for him, Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover.

I don't know why it keeps getting repeated that his line was terrible and he did it all despite them.

I'm picking several guys over him, but he's top 10.

I'm picking no one over Barry Sanders.

He is right there with Simpson, Allen, Dickerson, Brown, etc.

Definitely the last of the big body backs.

For me it was more that everyone in the stadium knew Barry was getting it and it just didn't matter. His offense sucked other than him and a coupe big uglies in front of him. He was the team on some historically bad teams. And he was literally getting tackled onto concrete.

Only 5 guys blocking was the thing. They were in run and shoot until his last 2-3 years.

The overhyping and revisionist history of Barry Sanders has been something to see. A loser who never won anything and quit on his team
Didn’t win anything?

That only matters to old people when they decide it does.

Barry is not better. Henry is going to be 35 having 1300-1500 yard sessons.

Training and especially nutrition are FAR superior today than when Barry played. DH is no doubt Top 5 of all time though.

The correct answer is Walter Payton.

I always thought Barry was the best, and I think it’s because I actually got to watch his entire NFL career, but the more I think about it now, I lean Jim Brown or Walter Payton. Just look at what Brown did and how he completely dominated his entire career, and Payton meanwhile, on top of his rushing accomplishments, also had another 4,500 yards and 15 TDs receiving, and he was a hell of a blocker. Total package.

Sanders was good. He was fun. But not a top 5.

Completely disagree there. He’s Top 5. I just now these days don’t view as #1.

Well, in Henry's defense, he wasn't the featured back in an offense until his third season with the Titans.

That's because he was a liability in the passing game - couldn't read his blocking assignments or run routes. He got a little better but that's still a weak spot on his resume and why he's never on the field on 3rd and 3+. The NFL is a QB-centric league and you need the other 10 guys on the field to facilitate that. Playing with Lamar helps because he doesn't need a RB to bail him out on passing plays but most QBs do. I'm saying that as a Titans fan and big Henry supporter.

Hard to compare between eras but he is the biggest anomaly the game of football has ever seen.

It makes no sense he can be as big and fast as he is without his body breaking down.

Jim Brown

This is my answer. Before most of our times but go back and watch some footage. What a beast. Old timers will almost always say Brown #1.

Is this where intellectually limited people bring up team accomplishments when discussing individual achievements?

I have a hard time arguing against the greatness of Derrick Henry. The guy is just phenomenal.

He is playing at a time you have the biggest, fastest, and strongest Defensive Lineman/Linebackers ever and he is still crushing it. I was too young to truly understand the greatness of Barry in real-time. So I would probably lean towards Henry in an all-time redraft.

I know it is recency bias, but I don’t think Henry has gotten the respect he deserves.

At this point, he is undoubtedly top 5. I can't see an argument against him being at that level. I doubted him many times since he was at Bama, and he's only exceeded expectations at every single point in his career.
