They may not be anyone's property, but the labor they sell is. They can go wherever they want. There is nothing stopping any player form going anywhere they want. They just can't use their labor wherever they want. That is an asset of the company franchise they are currently under contract with.

I listen or watch things all the time and don't think anything of it, and then I get on the internet and people are freaking out about it
I listened to the podcast as well (I pretty much listen to anything with Russillo) and Jackie's comments didn't even register with me

Anyone who is under an employment contract of some sort is the "property" of their employer. They own your time, your services, your labor, your output, you name it. Don't want to be "owned" then don't sign a contract, find some other way to make money. Don't join the military, though, wouldn't want to be government issue. It's amazing to me that these pampered fricksticks have deluded themselves into thinking that they are essential in any way. You are entertainment, nothing more. The fans owe you nothing, least of all that you be taken seriously.

If Kyrie had skipped the draft and managed to be a FA, he would be making far less than he got paid due to the rookie scale and would still be subject to the same contract limitations that he was now.
If he has a problem with it, he should complain to guys like Chris Paul and LeBron who run the NBAPA, who negotiated and signed the deal for players to do that.

The Lakers will cut a deal with two other teams like the Pels and Hornets to be their “D League” affiliate for the NBA.
Kind of like what the Yankees used to do by having the KC Athletics act as a de facto farm team for them as well as a Siberia for players like Billy Martin who caused too many problems.

He chose to sign with Brooklyn.
Wanna see a league without a draft? That 30 team league is gonna become 8 and you won't be paid the MILLIONS. Because if nobody chose to play for the new Orleans, Atlanta, Milwaukee, San Antonio etc and only want to go to the miami, LA Lakers, Boston, etc you won't get anybody to support those smaller shitty markets. That's what would happen.
