This article is so dumb and I refuse to click on it to give this person views.
Hockey, Baseball, Basketball, Football, and even soccer in the US all have the same rules in the draft. After that, you can make your own decisions for where you want to be. Maybe the word choice could have been better considering the sensitivity of people, but it’s dumb to use that instead of getting at what her actual point was, which is true.

Yep. The people that support this are the same ones that want to get a degree in some hobby but make as much as the person with a useful degree, want to make the same flipping burgers as the CEO, be viewed as “equal” in appearance but do nothing to improve themselves, etc. I REALLY hate to use the participation trophy explanation but I can’t find a better way to pinpoint the rise of their mentality.

Great idea, let's see how that would play out. Lakers win the championship. The #1 pick goes to join the Lakers. The #2 and #3 pick also joins the Lakers because they want to win immediately. The #4 pick joins the Warriors. The #5 and #6 pick join the KD Nets. The #7 and 8 pick join the Clippers because they want to live in LA.
At the end of the day, not a single soul chose to go to Memphis, Toronto, Oklahoma City, Charlotte or Minnesota because who would choose to live in those cities over LA, Miami, Houston, or Chicago.
The best teams in the league got better, and the worse teams in the league has absolutely zero chance in hell of competing. Tell me ,how much fun would that league actually be to watch long-term.

Half the country doesn't, but half the country enables this.
Left of center voters and pundits never push back against this insanity, they cower in fear from it, they coddle it, the apologize to it. They ensure it continues to happen even though deep down they don't agree with it.

I'm enjoying watching athletes destroy the business that pays them. Their lack of recognition of basic contract law shows they're in over their heads and acting against their own self interests.

Players don’t get to sign wherever they want though. Once you’re in a contract, you’re supposed to play for the team. Messi wanted out of Barcelona this past offseason. Guess what, he’s still playing there because the value of him was too great to pass up. It is more likely they can go where they want, but definitely not a guarantee.
Also, European soccer is the most unequal of leagues and has relegation. Our sports are nothing like the sort and it would be horrible for the league if we went to that.
