NOLA had value with AD, he left and they retain their value with ZW that they acquired through the draft
ZW comes out and signs with the Lakers to play with LBJ and AD then the rich get richer and NOLA is fricked
Lemon socialism. The owner gets the value but the team absorbs the loss.

the EPL and soccer are a bad example, they are not an Association with a fixed membership. with relegation the membership changes every year. so there is no focus on maintaining club values across the membership
I agree. There's also no draft in the EPL so players that haven't played in the league can sign with any team that offers a contract. This only happens in the NBA if a player wasn't drafted.

the soccer leagues also sign players to their academies in their teens, the players have even LESS autonomy than the NBA
How so? Are teens distributed to specific soccer academies through a lottery system? Or to the teens & parents get a choice of the academy they sign with?
Again, I agree with you on all aspects of the owner/player model except for the draft. It's uneven on many levels for many reasons that owners and established players aren't motivated to fix it.

Seems a little hypocritical for some to oppose a collectivist mechanism, such as a draft within a sports league being used to allocate available talent across teams, in the name of fairness and competitive balance, all the while voting at a >90% clip for people who want to apply the same mechanism to our entire society.
