Feels bad.
The wild thing is they all could be Houston legends like Altuve.
I don’t get chasing the max money as after $150 million, your life does not change much.
Why do none of these guys think about legacy and such?

It's an interesting part of the offseason for the position player group building.
There needs to be room at the inn for the top prospects to get real, extended playing time while you also cannot go into the season with a Punch-and-Judy outfield at the plate,
Dezenzo (who will be an outfielder now) is ready to give MLB a go. Whitcomb is going to be a COF/bench bat type. Melton is on track for a debut this season while Brice Matthews could end up as a CF.
What I think they want? A trade for an established outfielder to anchor the group (which would somewhat thin out the prospect OF logjam by default).
The most obvious trade fit is Luis Robert.

I’d love for them to buy low on Robert. I suspect Chicago wants to hold and hope he rebuilds his old value before July but perhaps a slight overpay (relative to what he did last year) could convince them. He is a swing worth taking in my opinion.

Pretty sure only the part paid this season counts... but it will still be affecting it for the full length of the deferred deal.
ETA: It's actually a combo... MLB penalizes based on their "value"
quote:
Even though Ohtani will be paid just $2 million each season with the Dodgers, the competitive balance tax (CBT) penalties will be harsher. MLB calculated that his 10-year contract has a present-day value of roughly $460 million. So, for CBT purposes, the Dodgers' payroll hit will be around $46 million each year for Ohtani through 2033.
So they're still saving $24m per year on the tax cap by deferring..

I don’t see a move like Luis Robert happening
Our best chance is probably one of our farm guys making a splash, sadly

None of them are MLB ready to start the season.

Well, I guess we ask Gamel or Heyward to volunteer at league minimum

I'm surprised Naylor was traded for so little

Think he’s entering final year of his contract so it’s basically a 1 year rental unless AZ plans on signing him to an extension

Hate it. But I wonder if anyone is going to give him what he’s asking….

See my post above. These guys are frickin retards. Bregman (and the rest) had a chance to go down as legend in Houston like Altuve.
But he will throw that all away for a few more Ms and then flounder away in Detroit?
Why? Why do none of these guys give a shite about their legacy? You get old and retire but your legacy and jersey in the rafters are forever.
This is not exclusive to Houston. Just a general commentary on modern sports where all these dudes give a frick about is the biggest bag possible.
It's pretty clear these guys only care about the money and not really a single frick about anything else.
Will be interesting to see how Bregman performs post-Astros.

Why do these guys keep Boras around?
Bregman is going to end up singing in March to a 2 year deal with an optout.

Very interested to see what Bregman signs for. Some of our offers to the guys who have left haven’t been that serious but that offer to Bregman was competitive and I think they truly wanted and thought they could keep him

I wonder what he’ll end up signing for. Only saw reports of the Astros offering him 6y/$156m, but all of his negotiating leverage is gone now that we have Paredes

There is no reality at this point to any notion of signing Bregman
Will miss his glove, but we paid less with less commitment to someone capable of his offensive production. Hit .260 with 25 HRs? Walker can do it
Paredes can hit .240 w equal power
Bregman could be a more professional hitter, but his motivations are all personal, less team related
If the Astros are making a splash at this point, it will be in the OF. Not happening though
