re: MLB Biggest Surprise Team this Year?
Posted by Hank Tank on 3/5/25 at 7:40 pm to SteelerBravesDawg
Pirates probably have the best staff in baseball
Skenes
Jones
Keller
Falter
Heaney
Then have three arms in the minors that will be up this year in Chandler, Ashcraft, and Harrington
Howitz, O'Neil, Hayes, Reynolds, Bart, Davis, Gonzales, all provide potential with vet leadership in McCutchen, Pham, and IKF

MLB Biggest Surprise Team this Year?
Posted by Hank Tank on 3/5/25 at 6:39 pm
Last year you had team like KC, The Brewers, and the Tigers have success while teams like Toronto, Rangers, Mariners, Red Sox all struggle.
What are your predictions for surprise teams?
AL going to say Tampa even though they seem to always be good but have scuttled recently and in the NL I'm going with the Pirates.

Meta Glasses anyone who owns can give real life pro/cons?
Posted by Hank Tank on 3/3/25 at 8:48 pm
Reviews are a little mixed with battery being the biggest hindrance.
I'm looking at a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer Meta Glasses but not sure if they are worth it.
- notable I'm not a caller but a texter
- I take a lot of pictures when traveling/in interesting places
- listening to music via glasses vs headphones would be nice if quality is good

Bonds hit 762 and no one acknowledges it
Just finished E4
How was Quinn allowed in the military and pass all of his exams + psych evaluations if his youth was that bad? I mean his youth psych said he has issues, those wouldn't disappear for 4+ years while in the military.

Braves are running out
Profar (regression)
Riley (improve)
Olsen (improve)
Ozuna (regression)
Harris (same)
Albie's (same)
Kelenic/De La Cruz (sucks)
Arcia (lol)
Baldwin(lol)
Then
Sale (regression)
Lopez (regression)
Schwellenbach (regression)
Holmes (meh)
Anderson (meh)
Strider is out until May for a full workload and probably won't make 20 starts this year. Acuna won't ever reach his 2023 season which seems like a distant memory now. He comes back and provides at barely above league average much like his last ACL injury.
Braves catchers were worth 2.4 WAR last year now you are counting on a rookie and a 30 year old rookie.
Braves are below the Phillies and Mets in the East. Mets rotation is a mess but their offense is better than the Braves. Hell if Sale/Lopez regress they have the same rotation filled with mid-starters.

Braves won't have Acuna or Strider to start the year. Now Murphy is out for a bit with cracked ribs. Riley, Albie's, and Olsen all took a step back last year. The biggest addition was Profar coming off a career year after a -1.3 WAR season. Counting on Sale to remain healthy for two years in a row and Lopez to perform like he did last year is expecting a lot.
Always amazes me Ichiro is 32 all time in at bats, 6th in singles, 35th in stolen bases, and 25th in hits despite not playing in MLB until he was 27

Really depends, if 5k comes back to the American people then awhile. Hell if they keep cutting and in year three or four prices completely drop then fantastic

Former Tiger Thatcher Hurd Tommy John Surgery
Posted by Hank Tank on 2/22/25 at 1:40 pm

New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Thatcher Hurd will have Tommy John surgery next week, Baseball America's Geoff Pontes reported Friday afternoon.
Hurd will almost assuredly miss the entire 2025 season recovering from the procedure on the UCL in his right elbow. He will be the second Yankees pitching prospect to undergo the surgery this spring, as Chase Hampton went under the knife on Thursday
quote:
The 22-year-old was the Yankees' third round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. He finished 2024 ranked as the No. 23 prospect and No. 13 pitcher in New York's farm system, per MLB Pipeline.
quote:LINK
The righty started a pair of games with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2024, going 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 0.724 WHIP.
The Yankees liked what they saw from Hurd, enough to give him an $836K signing bonus last summer.
Hurd did not make his professional debut in 2024, and he is now highly unlikely to do so in 2025, either. He has just 141.1 innings of organized baseball under his belt since graduating high school.
I enjoyed the first season and the second season started to lose my, so far in the third season I'm not 100% into it. Just feels like they are mailing it in and I can guess what is about to happen and I've never read the books.
