What’s Profar gonna go for?
Posted on 12/20/24 at 12:22 pm to 5 Deep
3 years 13-16 per year is my guess? I like Profar but that still kind of scares me for him

Kepler got 1/10 yesterday. He would have been an interesting bounce back option but 10 for him seems high.

Well that closes the book on the Alex Bregman era.
I will remember you. Will you remember me? Don't let your life pass you by. Weep not for the memories.

2024 statcast runs prevented:
Astros at 1B last year: -10
Christian Walker: +13

Oh yes sir I wanted Christian Walker. Perfect combination of power and defense without giving away a huge contract. Love it.
Sucks that Bregman is gone but I get it.

Never forget.
I implore all to revisit the magnificent 8/24 DAT when Singleton failed to make the above play to get Framber out of the inning. Epic meltdowns galore on top of the previous night’s meltdowns.

Yup. I'm going to be optimistic and believe they will sign an OF. So we swapped Singleton/Bregman/Tucker or Paredes/Walker/OF to be determined. Depending on the OF, that trade doesn't look too severe, especially considering Houston went 48-34 from June 4 to Sept 6 without Tucker.

Damn I forgot we lose picks for signing Walker. That hurts
Not as much as the fricking Arenado trade would have hurt. Suck it, Crane.

Need my girl Alison Brie in here to come up with the one word to describe Jeff Passan:

I'll never understand why Crane sees an issue in paying a premium for elite 30 year old talent for 7 years, but paying middling to good 33-36 year old players a premium for 3 years is fine.

So, Altuve the only guy left from 2017 now, yeah?
End of an era for sure. Crane feels very Uncle Draytony in that we’re probably going to hang on longer than we need to.
Also, the 2 years of no first and 2nd picks really sucks when it comes to acquiring talent in season.
I know we’re drafting in much worse places, and maybe it’s an industry thing in undervaluing our minor league players, but it feels like we’ve taken a step back in player development, or everyone else has caught up and we don’t have an edge

Christian Walker doesn’t have grandchildren like Abreu
3 years when you have to eat 2 is far better than 7 when you have to eat 4
People act like Cole was a decent deal for the Yankees. They haven’t won shite and that deal will end up hurting them mas much as the Judge deal when it’s all said and done

I like this move a lot. May not work out and they desperately need a LHB OF but this is far better than arenado.

McCullers is still technically an Astro, right? Still signed 2 more years.

It was a good deal. They got 20 war from the contract (the end of the deal since he opted out).

Not fair to evaluate individual players by team success in baseball imo

The options aren't great. Maybe Joc or Winker? Would you take a gamble that Verdugo can revert to the Boston version of himself? Notable switch hitters are Santander and Profar. I like Profar if he could repeat his 2024 but that season looks like an outlier compared to the rest of his career. you're likely to have to pay him for a season he may not repeat.
