You’re right, I just forgot about the 47 innings pitched in the last 3 years

like Profar if he could repeat his 2024 but that season looks like an outlier compared to the rest of his career. you're likely to have to pay him for a season he may not repeat.

I’ll take a chance on him if for no other reason, that he has a low K rate. We could use a bat that isn’t a donkey hacking clown…like the other two projected OFs.

If you think Joc can skate by in LF in Minute Maid he would be my preference, but having him and Yordan is kind of a strange roster fit. He has barely done anything besides DH the last few years. If they don’t want to pay for Profar (which I would understand honestly) I think I’d prefer Verdugo of that group

I had.

Even double checked to see if he was still "active".

A single productive inning would be a win.

He’s a jock sniffer masquerading as a journalist. He’s right that the best players get more than six year deals. But that doesn’t mean those deals are good for the club and guarantee any kind of team success. They’re good for the player and that’s all he cares about: carrying water for the players to stay in their good graces.

Yeah, it’s not like the Astros are the only team not handing out 10 year deals. Kinda silly to form much of an opinion until we see what he actually gets.

Personally, I love the Walker deal. If we can just get a slight upgrade in LF I don’t see how anybody can have an issue with this offseason.

With the addition of Walker and arbitration estimates, our luxury tax number is projected at 244M. That's just past the first tax threshold of 241M. We exceeded the tax by 27 million in 2024 and it was just announced today the Astros will pay a 6.4M penalty.

If we exceed the tax in 2025, we'll be subject to a higher penalty as a repeat offender. While Crane has been willing to exceed the tax threshold and pay a penalty, he's been hesitant to do it back to back. I would have to assume they're going to try to get Presslys 14M off the books and get back under the threshold. Even if we do that and take it from 244 to 230, 11M isn't much room to add an contributing outfielder.

As we've talked about in recent days, 2025 may be a run what you brung situation. Don't exceed the tax threshold this year, reset the tax penalties and have a bunch of money coming off the books for 2026

Thx for looking that up

I don’t expect Pressly on the roster next year, but no one is paying him 14

We might pay 11 M for someone to take a chance on him for 3

The threads are going to be hysterical all season long if we are running out a Jake, Chas, and Dubon OF We will run out of patience with them by mid April

Granted if just one of Chas or Jake can be decent the lineup would only have 1 true constant black hole

This is more of a spring training topic once we get the roster set, but this is a big year for JP3 imo. He's gotta become a little more consistent at the plate to take the next step. Cant be having those 3 week spells of hitting .100

My expectations are tempered going in. For a useless December prediction, I'd cap us at about 85 wins. Say 80-85.

After the Holidays, we need to do some patience strengthening exercises. This outfield will be a challenge for all of us.

If this is the outfield we're committing to, Chas has got to figure it the frick out. 2023 Chas has to come back. That's a quality player. Jake, I've got no confidence that he'll ever hit worth a damn.

I implore all to revisit the magnificent 8/24 DAT when Singleton failed to make the above play to get Framber out of the inning.
Probably the most memorable DAT of the year. Or if you stayed up for the Altuve shoe game vs San Diego that went to extras. Those stick out in my mind

That SD game was pretty epic, considering all of the umpire frickery the Astros overcame to win. If there were a DAT Classics vault somewhere, that one would go in it easily.

I just think that's good business. By the time most of these players produce enough to get paid, they don't have that many productive years left. So if you give out a 10 year deal you are lucky if you get 5 years of the type of production you are paying for. If you don't get a WS in that window, was it worth it?

The Phillies and Padres both have locked themselves into some big, long contracts with aging players. The Phillies did make a WS a couple of years back, but their window is closing as many of those guys they contracted with are in their 30's and the inevitable decline will start....then they'll have roster spots full declining stars whose contracts are too big to move. Same with the Padres.

Get someone on a deferred money deal like the Dodgers love. Could be 3/$60M or similsr but paid out over 6 instead of 3.

No matter what they do, I would think the next move is Pressly. Crane is not gonna want to go any farther over the tax until he’s sure how that deal goes.

Maybe I’m too hopeful but I think there will be a team that regards Pressly highly enough to take on the full salary. Doesn’t make sense for us, but if he’s someone’s closer that number really isn’t that bad for 1 year.

I agree with you. I do think it will take some of the reliever free agent pieces moving before it happens which may take a bit
