The year they left out Baylor would be the only year I can think of.

Also, the reasoning they always spew out is COMPLETELY ASININE...they're really getting "lucky" rather than being right.

I mean we keep saying this, but why leave it up to chance when the point is not to do that.

As said, the Big 12 champ should have been in in 2014 (as should OSU as they proved). The committee got it wrong by putting in an undefeated FSU team, but you can't look at it after the fact.

I don't think there was a right answer in 2014. A deserving team was going to get left out. It was just unfortunate.

In 2013 an 11-1 Baylor was left out of the BCS Championship in favor of an 11-1 Auburn that happened to be the luckiest team in CFB history. The Bears ended up in the Fiesta Bowl vs an AAC team by the name of UCF.

Final score

UCF - 52
Baylor - 42

The next year they were 11-1 and again left out of the playoff in favor of a 12-1 Ohio State that lost by double digits at home to a 6-6 Va Tech. (Baylor lost on road to 6-6 WVU) They instead went to the Cotton Bowl vs Michigan State.

Final score

Sparta - 42
Cubbies - 41

Winning your conference should be your #1 goal every year. Since there no longer need to be divisions you could have the two teams w/the best record play like the Big 12 does.

Meh. What if the best two conference teams are 9-3 and they lost thier ooc scheduled games?

Why should these 9-3 teams be rewarded for playing in a shite conference?

Just take the best 4 or 6 in the nation and be done with it.

Auto qualifiers is the most moronic argument in modern day college football

Or maybe they had really hard OOC games. When I was a student at LSU in 88 we played Texas A&M, Ohio State and Miami OOC, we lost 2 of those but won the SEC at 6-1 in conference. Wouldn’t we rather see a schedule like that, than the crap we get non conference now?

Only give auto home bids to the top 4-6 conference winners then. After that you might get an auto bid to the playoff but you could also get stuck as the 16th seed. The teams that straight wrecked shop all year would get a reward for being 1 loss or undefeated and teams that maybe just sneak in are punished. Also, ignoring OOC unless it's for judging wild cards incentivizes tougher OOC scheduling.

Every single other level of football has a true playoff that gives everyone a chance at getting in.

There is no legitimate reason for FBS to be different.

No system is perfect but one where every school has a chance is far better than one where maybe 30 do. Let's get real. An 11-1 Northwestern, Baylor, Oregon State *insert traditional also ran here* is never going to get in for the 4th slot over an 11-1 Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, *insert blue blood name here* so let's not pretend that the current system even gives all P5 schools the same chance.

75% of the semifinal games have been 3 or more possession games. Not always won by the higher seed. I'm not saying the wrong teams are going, but this is hard to gloss over.

What are they supposed to do? Not put in teams that do their job in the regular season?

Sucks some of the games haven't been close, but it is what it is.

You'd never see a G5 team ranked higher than 11th. If it expands to eight, the best G5 team should always get a bid. Go back and look at some of eighth ranked P5 teams at the end of the season- they often have 3 losses. 7 P5 teams is plenty.

I agree with that as well, but every conference needs to be included.

I would also eliminate midweek games. The over saturation of football is hurting the sport.

Expanding the playoff waters down the regular season. The regular season IS CFB. If you are a P5 team and win all your games, there’s a 99% chance you will get in the playoff. If you don’t win all your games, you can’t complain.

If it were up to me, we’d go back to BCS #1 vs #2 for the crystal ball. The other bowl games would be better and mean more.
