baseball is the college football of the northeast
The atmoshpere around Wrigley Field for opening day reminded me of college football with so many people in the area grilling and drinking before the game.

I don't even see the appeal in baseball.

I didn't say baseball I said MLB.
My anecdotal evidence from my time living in St Louis backs you up on this.

I'm not going to say that baseball is dying or anything, but I have found that the drop off in popularity in my group of friends is pretty extreme. I grew up playing and watching baseball. My group of friends in high school were all baseball players and fans. We watched a ton of games. Now we are all in our mid 20s and not one of us watch the game anymore. One of my friends is still in the minors and has said multiple times that he has no interest in watching baseball.
This is clearly a small sample size, but this thread made me realize how little the MLB is brought up when we get the chance to hang out.

Maybe for brave people...my arse was always huddled in the cubbie bear trying to put on another layer of clothing.

What does this have to do with anything
1997 National championship
only time the Tigers were challenged in Omaha, defeating Stanford 10–5 and 13–9 before ousting Alabama 13–6 in the championship game.
Just figured that was the last baseball game you watched

Troll, same individual when there is a baseball thread he pops in to let individuals know how boring he thinks it is

Nope, didn't watch it. I don't remember the actual game, I just think it was between 97-99. I wouldn't even watch it now if bama made the CWS finals.

You dont think baseball is trending down in popularity?

Nope. The little poll I just posted has it trending upward. It went up 2 percentage points from last year. I realize that poll isn't the absolute best thing to use to gauge this, but it's better than anything anyone else has shown.

There's also a racial divide that is increasing proportional to demographic changes. Baseball still seems popular with whites. Slightly less so with Hispanics although pretty popular. Not popular with Asians. Nonexistent to most African Americans outside the NE.

Not really

Thank Selig's continued dilution of the playoffs for that one

When do you want to play to World Series? August?

You serious? Slightly less popular with Hispanics? Have you seen a mlb game? I've also seen plenty of blacks kids in the south playing baseball.

I love baseball and the poster who said baseball is the college football of the Northeast is brilliant.

Meh, I'm going to agree with the earlier statement that many African American youth do not play baseball. I hate to see it, but they just don't. Compare the race demographics of a college basketball roster, made up of 12 players, with a college baseball roster, made up of 35 players.

Oh, look at me. I'm a rough, tough MAN that only likes MANLY sports. Not enough MANLY contact in baseball. I'm so cool.
And I'm a MAN!
And I'm a MAN!
