Do those videos age well? Doesn't seem like that far from when it happened that anyone would care anymore. Like most videos, the views are in the first days/weeks.

It's a collector's item. Nothing to do with views.

So it is a collector's item of something digital.

I guess I could see a niche market for it, but it isn't something tangible that collectors can display.

I wonder if he gets all footage of that swat or only a certain camera angle?

You'd want the TV cam for the block, the low court cam for his face reac, then a slow mo replay from a 3rd baseline cam to have it be anywhere near iconic.

I just youtube'd the same club for free and can watch it as many times as I want.

Yea, I don't remotely understand this.

Why did he pay $100k for this if he doesn't have any rights to it? What will he do with it and why is it any more valuable than that free YouTube clip of the same video just linked here?

it means he can take it off the rest of the Internet, and if they want to show it again on tv, he has to get paid (I think)

there are serial numbers attached to the highlights making them scarce and rarer depending on the number

for example, if there are 500 clips and you had 1/500 it would be worth more. if it was lebron James and you had 23/500 it would be worth more (bc the jersey number is attached to your serial number)

just the fact that there are only 500 of the digital asset also makes it rare in of itself

i very rarely ever feel old at age 28 and/or stupid and i absolutely feel both right now.

this seems incredibly dumb, but more power to the investors. i will not be getting involved with this, so good luck to those that have the balls to do so.

Yeah, I don't get how that is supposed to be valuable when it's freely available for anyone whenever they want to view it, which they won't.

yea I've been doing it for a few months and am up 1000%. I wasn't sure if it was a fad or the future but after seeing the traditionally dumb people here give awful takes I'm more convicted that this is just getting started

So is the idea to buy a share of the clip as an investment for the longer term returns on the ad revenue of those that stream/watch it?

Like was said, like a stock.
But he doesn’t own the clip

that's great. can you give a slightly more detailed explanation on how it works? it doesn't really make any sense on the surface.

it's just virtual trading cards? i cant figure out what the market is whatsoever

ok, so people want to own this highlight or a unique serial number of this highlight/other highlights. why? the human behavior part of it is lost on me.

Maybe thinking of it as an online basketball card instead of a video will help some make sense of it.

well for example last night you could reserve a spot to get 1 of the 50000 packs of the "cool cats v2" series.

these packs were $14 and you received 5 digital cards.

you can display them on your collection or sell them on the marketplace.

I discussed the rarity factors above
