State Farm's minimum 5% hurricane deductible - WTF

What kind of pure shitstain is this shite? Their minimum hurricane deductible is 5%. That means if I have damage to my house from a hurricane, my deductible shoots up from $2,000 to $15,000.
I've been with them my entire life and when I moved a year ago I was told I had to go up to 5%. I'm fed up with this shite. State Farm is not what it used to be and they're turning into just another insurance company if you ask me.

Federated national is 2%
Also premiums roughly 50% lower than all other companies I got quotes from

State Farm is about to take a huge hit.
Aside from the $7 billion in auto loss, the company now has auditing procedures for claims being filed. Every company has that in place, but now EVERY CLAIM will be audited, meaning more hassle for all involved. Talk to any collision center, and they will affirm over the past 6 months or so, SF has been a pain in the arse.
Their rates are jumping, as they have too much of the market. Yet, for whatever reason, people are loyal to their insurance companies. Can't figure it out.

How much of a hassle is it to file a legit claim, and they pay it?
Which insurance company is the best in La.?
What about Progressive? ANPAC? Farm Bureau Insurance?
My State Farm rates went up this month. I am looking to bail.

They are hurting big time, my fiancé works there. They have jacked up my rates insanely high, I'm about to switch. They are dropping auto coverages in Texas for almost any accident, at fault or not, at this point. Geico and nationwide are eating their lunch.

They had a one time offer 1-2 years ago to drop the minimum 5% to 2%. I missed responding in time and also have the 5%.
I've had SF forever and have made numerous claims, without many issues at all. It's difficult to abandon them for an unknown company. I've been treated well, and with being treated well they are rewarded with loyalty, like any business.
However, money talks. Think I'm gonna call up an independent and shop around. I have term life with them as well, so I assume I'll keep that through them.

If you've had it in place for a couple years, absolutely.

I just went with Maison out of Baton Rouge. No separate storm deductible. $1000 less than Allstate as well.
Everyone should shop all insurance every few years.

I'm thinking about bailing and going with Pure. Anybody have experience with them

Call Lanoix Insurance agency. I had State Farm and wanted to switch because of the 5% storm deductible. They found me one w $1000 deductible and cheaper rates.

Pure is where I put most of my high value clients. Great company (if) when you qualify.

You should call an independent and let them shop for you. The market is really soft right now and you can get better terms than that.

State Farm is awful. Life long customer, but got hit with 2 hail storms in a 5 year period. They cancelled me no questions asked. I'm talking home, auto, everything. Apparently they did it to almost everyone in our zip code.
I had been with them for 15 years.

every time a customer tells me they are going with State Farm for home owners insurance i have the same reply. You better love your agent because there premiums are 15-20% higher than other HOI premiums i see and the hurricane deductible is 5%. I see a ton of companies doing 1% or flat $1000 on hurricanes these days.

It must be a regional thing. I check insurance rates about every 3 years and I have yet to find anyone even in the ballpark for me.
I have 2 cars, personal articles, home owners insurance and an umbrella policy. USAA has been the closest but even with them I would have ended up paying almost $1500/yr more.

ETA: But yes, I agree that SF 5% deductible is ridiculous. My old SF agent told me that they're looking to get out of Louisiana completely

After SF raised my hurricane deductible to 5%, went with an independent guy in BR and he put us with MetLife HOI, with a 2% hurricane deductible about two years ago. Do you think it's worth emailing him and having him shop around for a 1% or $1000 hurricane deductible? Is that a pretty common amount right now?

I have my 2 houses, 3 vehicles, boat and RV all split between USAA and Geico. Their quotes vary so.much on item to item that it's insane.
