Former five-star LSU tight end Arik Gilbert has joined the Savannah State football program, according to reports.

Gilbert caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman at LSU in 2020 but left Baton Rouge after one year.

He went on to transfer to Georgia, but did not play in 2021 due to personal reasons. He caught two passes for 16 yards and one touchdown for the Bulldogs in 2022.

Following the 2022 season, Gilbert transferred to Nebraska, but never played in a game after being arrested for breaking into a vape store in Lincoln.

guys, he's schizophrenic. The son of a buddy of mine here in Atlanta knew Arik. Very, very tough to deal with.

You know, back in 2020 when we got this guy, I dont know if I would’ve believed you if you would’ve told me his high school teammate who committed to LSU as well would’ve been the bigger star in college, but here we are. BJ Ojulari was a star at LSU and even made the NFL and Arik Gilbert is on to his 4th or 5th college and has been a trainwreck at almost every stop.

The self-destructive behavior goes way beyond synthetic marijuana. It’s mental illness(es)

I still think that the Covid isolation in 2020 messed with this kids head during his first year from home, I mean 2020 messed with a lot of older well adjusted people's head who were a lot stronger than an 18, 19 year old freshman. I just want this young man to find his footing and find success. There's no reason for me to hate on a young kid who brought no harm to LSU or the fan base. Good luck young man.

Honest question. If this year goes well for him, how many years of eligibility would ge have left? He would have technically been a freshman in 2022 since 2020 did not count.

Hopefully he got his mental illness under control and medicated so he can have a better life whether in football or not.

Don't judge. You don't know what his illness is like. He may be doing his best to overcome it.
