Why do people forget how mediocre Joe Burrow&Jayden Daniels were in YR 1 starting at LSU?

Joe in 2018 was nothing special. Some people were calling for his job and saying “we still don’t have a quarterback”.
Same thing with Jayden in 2022. He was average, and a lot of people wanted him benched in favor of Nuss.
Both QBs blossomed in year 2 at LSU after getting their feet wet and taking their lumps in year 1.
Nuss’s 2024 campaign has been better than either of those guys’ first years starting at LSU. You have to look at the QBs’ first years in order to compare apples to apples here.
The future is bright, especially with all the weapons we’re getting for Nuss in the portal (and hopefully OL soon). I think Nuss could have a Heisman Trophy type of campaign next year.
The moral of the story is don’t judge a QB on year 1 as starter for your team.

Been over this 100 times, go reread those threads.

I will admit that I wanted us to move on from Jayden after the FSU loss year 2. I was an idiot.

People are morons but the second Joe called that audible in the beginning of the Miami game I knew he was different, and we finally had a real QB.

We have to hope for a similar jump, but Nuss isn’t a transfer learning a new system.
He’s been here 4 years.
I always thought a Joe would be a good QB if we actually installed a working offense.
Jayden I felt just need to to let it rip, and if he stopped hesitating on all his throws his numbers would explode.
Nuss needs to just take care of the ball. He makes way too many inexcusable throws.

Idiots. All of them.

The main difference to me was Joe Burrow only threw 5 INTs his first year and Daniels only threw 3 INTs. Nuss threw 11 INTs so that’s the most frustrating part. He is very careless with the ball at times.
Jayden Daniels combined for 28 touchdowns with only 3 turnovers Year 1. Nuss combined for 29 touchdowns and had 13 turnovers. Thats a big difference.

My dumbass wanted to start Walker Howard after Jayden lost that A&M game his first year

Nobody liked comparing Daniels to Burrow & nobody likes including Nuss.
His year 1 was better than both of theirs

I was honestly always a Burrow believer. That guy was different even in his first year. Stats don't show it but it was clear he was a gamer. His hype was cemented after that Fiesta Bowl for me.

Correct

INTs is the only place where Nuss is inferior to them so far.

Nobody “forgets” this. This exact thread has been made several times. But there have also been tons of quarterbacks that haven’t made some massive jump in their 2nd year. You just choose to ignore it because it’s not what you want to happen.

What about the QBs that never improved? Or are you just pretending best case scenario is apples to apples?

and some of our fans wanted the backup to start going into their 2nd seasons at LSU (Brennan & Nuss)

this has been discussed ad infinitum. please pay attention.
had JOE burrow had BRADy calling plays and helping attack weaknesses in the D in his first year the results would have been far different and far better.
JD5 had started 3 straight years. usually what you see is what you get after starting that long. he proved most here wrong making a huge jump between 3rd and 4th seasons.

They sucked. What’s your point?
Doesn’t change the fact that Nuss had a better year 1 than two Heisman Trophy winners. That’s a reason for optimism in my opinion.

The next week he was 8/15 86 yds 1 INT and 1 fumble lost vs Arkansas. We lose to the hogs if Perk doesn't go superman that game. Then 2 weeks after that with the game tied with aggie fumbles on a 4th and 1 read option that should have gone to Emery and the aggies run it back for a TD and LSU never recovers.
The point is all 3 had issues their 1st season. All 3 were very different situations. Burrow was a 1st year starter. JD was on year 4, but with a new team. Nuss has been here the whole time, but Sloan is the 4th OC since he's been here and I don't think anyone thinks Sloan is a great playcaller. JD was too conservative year 1. Nuss was too reckless.
We'll see if Nuss learns to make better decisions with the ball. He has the talent, if he can stay focused.
