Why can’t the NCAA just say, “these are the rules. If you don’t like it, then don’t play”

Doesn’t seem hard. Have a spine. Say your rules. Tell anyone who thinks they can fight it just because they don’t like it to kick rocks.
At some point, someone has to make concrete NIL rules or this shite will rinse and repeat year after year.

Because the Supreme Court rendered the NCAA nutless a few years ago and continues to do so to the point in which the NCAA can barely even enforce its own rules.

NCAA’s first step is to enforce their rules equally and fairly across all fronts. They have displayed time and time again not to do that.

What i want is the rules applied evenly across the board. Either all players get their 5th year, or none of them do. This pick and choose based on when NFL teams decided they weren't good enough to play is bullshite.

Because the NCAA acted so extremely selfishly for decades that by the time the lawsuits started, it was so corrupt and bereft of any defense it’s basically lost every lawsuit it’s been a party to. They can’t tell the United States legal system F you, we make our own rules even if the Supreme Court says we can’t enforce them. Frankly all their attempts since have left so many loopholes that now the teams and conferences are trying to figure out what’s kosher and what’s not.

Because the NCAA has no real legislative power to enforce their own ever changing rules

Exactly. Some people haven’t really been following this story at all.
This whole thing started with a rule change that opened a window for them to be eligible.

They did! This is why we are having all of these lawsuits because the players have been shown that all they have to do is sue and get an injunction and then they get to break the rules.

You must've missed all the (insert plaintiff players here) vs NCAA court cases over the past 5 years or so. The NCAA tried to enforce eligibility rules and the court system has neutered the NCAA at every turn. From local district courts to federal courts to the US Supreme Court.
The only way the NCAA will have teeth to stand their ground on eligibility issues, NIL regulations, and penalizing violators is if Congress gives them the legal protection to do so. Protect College Sports Act has been brought up in Congress already, they just can't agree on the exact structure of the bill.

Okay, so let me get this straight. So now we got this situation where NFL players dropped by teams can opt to go back to collegiate football programs. So does this mean we're got this flow of collegiate football players into the NFL and vice versa, players flowing back to collegiate football programs. So where does this leave the collegiate athletic scholarship program?
So are collegiate football programs now all thrown together in a sort of feeding frenzy (funded by NIL) chasing after NFL talent and transfer portal collegiate talent? With High School Athletes left on the periphery of this frenzy waving their hands and saying - looky here, I'd like to play football for a major collegiate program as well, and maybe get a quality education.
So am I correct in my opinion, this means the death of collegiate football?

If they did the players would get an injunction to let them play anyway. Just ask Pavia and Chambliss.

That is what needs to happen. Why do the courts get to decide what the rules are in college football? Courts are there to enforce laws. The only laws that should apply to college football are the ones college football makes for itself (through the NCAA).
The courts have completely fricked up the sport, IMO.
