fricking terrible call. Why would someone allow ball 4 to hit them? Can we not try and avoid being hit anymore?

He clearly tucked away but his arm moved naturally and was hit.

I think the ump should only make that call if a player moves CLOSER to the plate to get hit. Dickinson moved his arm down but actually moved it away from the plate. It was a complete BS call. (I think he moved the way he did to have it hit the pad on his elbow instead of somewhere else). No matter, still a BS call especially on ball four.

Very dubious call.

Looked like he was trying to NOT get hit.

put yourself into a batting stance and turn your body away from a would be ball inside…where does your elbow naturally go? it literally drops down and tucks away protecting your ribs

Probably by the rule
"The rule" supposedly determines if a player deliberately maneuvered to get hit. Obviously a player does not deliberately get hit by ball 4.

He didn't, he turned away. Go outside and turn away and see what happens to your elbow.

CJJ said it was the right call. I’ll just go with that.

I think dropping the arm to protect the rib cage is a natural reflex. I think an intentional hit should be so obvious to not be a question. That was bs

whoever made the call should have to stand in the box and have a ball break into his ribs and see what he does

I think it’s a stupid rule and it’s impossible to judge a batters intent when a ball is coming for his ribs at 95 mph and he has milliseconds to react. Maybe if they walk out on top of the plate or something but it’s a dumb rule, either way.

In my opinion that rule is in place for the most egregious violations. Which that wasn’t, on top of the fact it was ball 4 makes it all the more infuriating

I thought it was a bad call.

He's moving away from the pitch turning away from it.

It was a TERRIBLE call and the announcers where trying to cover for Blue....he started towards the ball, then retreated and tried to get out of the way, the ball hits him and he couldn't get out of the way...BS call...but of course the CC coach challenged it because that is what his players are coached to do...

Your natural reaction is to pull your arms closer to your body to defend yourself. It's a stupid rule that protects bad pitching

Terrible rule - he was moving away from the plate, he didn’t stick any body parts out towards the plate and the ball was a foot inside the batter’s box. That rule and the ump getting hit by the errant throw need to be changed. The latter should be a dead ball and runner awarded a base

there's been about 5 of these in the CWS where a batter turned and his elbow went down into the ball. At least 3 of those were reviewed. This was the ONLY one where the guy was called out when his elbow dropped down.

IMO, Dickinson was trying to turn his body to avoid being hit. The fact that he dropped his elbow is immaterial.

If you anticipate getting hit in the ribs, it’s a natural reaction

The player for Carolina that got hit twice, the 2nd time he was hit he turned right into it. That was let go, but this was challenged and overturned. Pretty shitty.
