Reports from camp are that the other 3 backs have sort of supplanted him and he’s potentially 4th now fighting for 3rd with Gage.

I hope this means that competition is fierce and we have some really good options this year… so overall good for team.

They all will get touches I suspect and Kiffin and CWJ are great about getting backs involved.

I just find it interesting because Durham has shown promise through the years but it seems like he’s being passed up. Is he injured again?

He hasn’t been the same since he got hurt his freshman year. Looks like he lost a step.

Can't speak to where he's running depth wise in scrimmages, but berry was the #1 rb coming out of hs, ane Jones was a top 10 rb as well.. so if hes running 2nd/3rd i dont think it's a shock. If hes behind gage id find that hard to beleive.. but who knows. We are going to be much better at the rb position as a group then we have been in a while.

I expect Durham to play a big role because he is an excellent pass receiver RB and is good in pass protection. He can also run the ball but I just questioned his vision sometimes. Nonetheless, these kind of skills get you in the game when things get tight. He is probably our best all around back.

He was not very good last season. Would not surprise me at all if he was passed up.

I was glad when he pulled his name from the portal, but it probably wasn’t a smart move for him.

He’s extremely fast and great in the passing game.

Unless his vision has improved, none of this surprises me.

I was surprised with that as well as I really liked him coming into the program and some of the explosive plays that he had pre injury.

If you think about it, in addition to seeming to have lost a step, he also seemed to lack vision last year. I know the O line sucked but there seemed to be a number of plays were he could have bounced outside or cut back into a crease and just didn’t.

Dead on, he has all the physical traits but lacks the most important thing “vision”

Extremely fast? I remember him getting hawked down by one of the smaller tier opponents.

Reports from camp

What reports?
How can anything been leaked if it was a closed practice?

Do you really think Kiffin it's gonna show anything to the media being his first game. As the new head coach?

He looked game slow last year quite a few times relative to what you'd expect from him. Maybe it's injury, I don't know.

People are invited to watch most practices including media, it might only be a small portion worth, but they get to see the pecking orders of who is 1s/2s etc.

Durham hasn't ever been running with the 1s and rarely with the 2s

After he got hurt his freshman year they put too much weight on him. He doesn’t have the same burst. Dude ran track in HS in TX and didn’t have the weight pre injury he does now.

I thought last week. It was a report he was 2nd?

I just think Kiffin is trolling everyone

Berry is more explosive and just as good of a pass catcher. Jones is likely better between the tackles and is solid in pass pro.

Durham will play, but he might just not have the skillset Kiffin wants in a RB that gets a majority of the snaps.

I know we have some talented guys at RB so we should be feeling lucky if Caden Durham is our 3rd best back.

Caden is still a very talented back. its really hard to take anything away from these "reports." It can be a good thing as it means we have a very talented room. Caden still has a good history of creating explosive plays so I would expect him to be used even if hes not in the top 2.

But again its impossible to take anything away from these "camp reports." I'm still going to let it play out but I do think its revealing that we have a lot of good depth at the position.

I’d say it’s a good problem to have if he is your RB3 or RB4.

Any discussion must take into account that LSU run game approach/scheme under Sloan was AWFUL and predictable. No RB was having success in that scheme. Hester and Flynn talked about it constantly last season. Especially Hester. As far Durham, I don't think his vision is that poor. I just think he doesn't have great explosive traits or elite speed. Perhaps that partly because of his injury. Or maybe he's bulked up too much. But the speed people were expecting hasn't shown up on the field.

"football speed" and "track speed" are two different things. There have been plenty of guys throughout football history that run great track times, but it doesn't necessarily translate to the football field. Then you see a guy like Jeremy Hill. He didn't have an elite 40 time (he ran a 4.6 at the combine). However, DBs and LBs rarely ran him down from behind.
