How so? He said two years ago after the big transfer class that he planned on building from HS instead of the portal. Whether it’s a good plan or not that was his plan from the beginning and he was transparent about it.

...its always "Next year"

College football is now a "one year window" sport. You just can't forecast a roster with the transfer portal.

Not true. Because you can now transfer as often as you like, Ole Miss is building on a 50/50 model. They’ll still recruit in the Top 20 but their studs most years will be very highly paid transfers.

They have 2 billionaire plaintiff attorney alums and multiple plaintiff attorneys worth a half billion plus (including their collective founder) that will pay $10-20M per year in the aggregate for portal kids and never miss the money.

Kiffin has found the new model quicker than anyone and the big money from the school is all in.

I talked to an Ole Miss booster about this and he said we are going all in on this year. They have ton of offensive talent coming back and they think if they shore up the defense they can make a real run at a title

Unfortunately Kelly’s defensive staff is killing it neither in prep recruiting nor the portal. If Ole Miss should miraculously win the national title next season it will sustain Kiffin beyond just “next year.”

I like Kelly, a lot, but he’s also an aging ostrich.

Im gonna place $100 on Ole Miss to win the title next year. I almost placed $100 on Jayden to win the Heisman in July and I’m kicking myself for not doing so.

Honestly by QB recent history we are 1 yr away. It took Burrow until year 2 to click and it took Daniels year 2 to click. I expect the same with Nuss and better chemistry with WRs in year 2. So yeap we are another year away.

You're missing the big difference of Nuss having been here for 3 years already and throwing to these receivers and having 2 years with this staff and system vs your examples transferring in to a new roster and new coaches for their first year as a starter. And even though we're going to have a new OC next season I don't believe Kelly is going to deviate too far from the system he likes to run.

This is a ridiculous and very short sided argument. Your Georgia’s and Bama’s are built through high school recruits. BK has said he wants to build a program through mainly high schoolers.

The portal isn’t filled with superstars just looking to transfer. The portal is high ranked guys from big schools that didn’t match their ranking, lower tier guys/schools that outplayed their ranking (Daniels), guys chasing money (Nolan), guys that are good but have issues (Duce and Denver), and guys from teams that lost their coach (Nolan).

Kiffin has simply convinced that he has the offense and if boosters can buy him the defense he’ll win a championship next year. They won’t do that every year.

Yall keep repeating this stuff. It’s such a fantasy world y’all live in. Look they might be paying players because they believe they can win next year but that doesn’t mean it will happen and IF it doesn’t I will absolutely guarantee these billionaires and millionaires won’t be doing it again. You don’t become a billionaire or millionaire by accident. Those type of people invest every single dollar and while they do take risks, they don’t continue taking bad risks that doesn’t benefit them in some way.

Everyone and their mom said A&M was going to win a championship with Jimbo until he didn’t. Not only did he not win with all that talent and so called money thrown at them but he didn’t even come close. This might work for Ole Miss in 2024 but they will NOT continue this with success. This is NOT proven. What’s proven is building from HS recruiting over 3-4 year period and then adding key players at certain positions (especially QB) and then those key players being elite during their time.

Ole Miss is desperate for some type of success and this action tells me that they don’t believe that they can compete the proven way so they’re trying to luck their way into one successful season. LSU is different. This state is loaded with talent that is routinely underrated every year. That is a fact. Where was the best 2 defensive players on that A&M team from? Louisiana! Turned out to be a 5* talent for them. I see that on so many other teams in this region as well. Their best players are from this state.

Lsu is not losing tons of key players to the portal like many other schools are. We are losing players that we don’t have room for and replacing them with better players. It’s called natural attrition. That’s what you want. We have great QBs coming up with elite skill players.

Don’t pay too much time to them. They don’t follow the recruiting tea leaves they just see the right now. They have no idea the class that Kelly is about to bring in in 2025 and 2026. And even then they’ll complain we are behind Georgia and bama at #3 even though it fits all our needs

For instance look at coming into this year. We had like 9 RBs and expected Josh Williams to lead it. Diggs was our RB1 and Jackson is gonna be a dog along with Holly. Add Durham out of high school and the number one RB in the next class. LSU went from a walk on to an elite stable of backs in three years under Kelly

GD shame that LSU is being out spent by a University in the State of Mississippi.

Doesn't matter if you like it or not.

That's the way it works now and you can't fight it.

Better get with the program or fall further behind.....

What Kiffin is doing isn’t all that unique. It’s nothing more than what A&M did in recruiting a couple of years ago applied to the portal. It worked for one year and others followed suit the next season and they became just another of many bidders. The same will happen to OM.

In 3-5 years, none of this will exist anyway. This bullshite with open transfers is likely the last straw to get the P5 to break away from the NCAA and the universities. At that point, all of the NCAA rules and the effects of these lawsuits and Supreme Court decisions are over and done with. There will be a collective bargaining agreement and contracts and direct payments to players. That means the end of all collectives. NIL will become what it was designed as- outside endorsement deals only.

The portal will be replaced by some form of organized free agency based on however long the first contract a player has is. That means no more wide open transfer portal. Player movement will be restricted by contracts since they will be employees.

If you think I’m exaggerating, when you have guys like Saban and Kelly lobbying congress over these issues, you can bet the schools and conferences are fed up with all that is going on. The NCAA is powerless and the players are pushing their advantages to the point where the P5 schools are going to push back. Once that happens, the players are going to find a lot more strings are attached to them getting paid.
