The portal window is for guys to go into the portal. It is not a window for them to transfer. Only to declare. We will be fine.

we have to wait until January when the portal has opened and closed meaning 2026 will be a rough season.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the portal window is only for students to enter the portal, not for them to make their decisions.

The window closes Jan 16. The CFP final is Jan 19. If LSU still has a vacancy during the playoffs its bc our target is still playing and you can bet some big portal names will still be available. Also, in the event of a coaching change, a 30 day window will open for the players at the school who loses their coach. So anyone on the roster that Kiffin (or any coach) would want to bring along with them will be able to come.

The portal window thing is really not as big of a deal as people have made it out to be.
Woodward fired BK without the board's approval in the heat of the moment during a tense argument about what assistants to let go.
Street lights and extras walking across the screen are cast the wrong race? The extras??!

At this point you're just looking to be offended. Go outside.

Sid Edwards. First ever college football coach whos also the mayor of the town he coaches in.

He actually meant himself.

Les Miles and Orgeron won titles at LSU. Les benefited immensely from what Saban left him but he went to the title game 7 years post Saban. His worst season in 11 years was 8 wins. Hell everyone knows about 2019 but O also hit 10 wins the year before. I dont think Les or O were also "sleeping giants"

You just need to focus on who your next hire will be, ReggieRay. By the time Kiffin leaves you after the playoffs for Florida or LSU the pickins will be slim and the 30 day window your players will be granted to jump ship is gonna be ugly.

So why hasn’t LSU been a contender since 2019, and if one thinks 2022 was a contender (10-4) why was Kelly fired?

It's the same reason Nick Saban looked at us in 1999 after the worst decade in our football history and decided to come here. He called us a sleeping giant. Was he wrong?

Lesser coaches have succeeded here. The word on Kelly was that he was mailing it in. No staff meetings, no recruiting visits, on the beach during bye weeks, players never spoke with him until he needed something from them. Its a good job but if the coach is lazy the results will be as well.
In O's lame duck season we went to Bama and nearly won that game. Had a ball in the end zone to win on the last play IIRC.

re: Ok ill chime in on Verge.

3 of our last 4 AD's were LSU guys.

Dean - played at LSU
Skip - coached at LSU
Alleva - sided with a lying hooker over his lacrosse team at Duke
Woodward - graduated from LSU

Verge played for LSU, has worked for LSU for 30 years, and he gets the hookers to keep their mouths shut.

We got the right guy!

But in all seriousness I support the hire. I dont buy into the "nobody else wanted him" line. Ive heard from people close to him that other smaller schools have reached out in the past but his wife is really high up with Entergy and he has no reason to leave to boost his resume. LSU is his home.
I don't think he's coming. That being said, if he came back here is why I would be thrilled:

1. Just 2 seasons ago he ran through the SEC 8-0, won the SECCG, and came up just short of playing for another national title when he lost in OT to eventual national champion Michigan. This isn't Mack Brown getting rehired. Or Bill Belichek who was looking for a job b/c he was in a clear decline and got fired.

2. The Bama melt would be worth it alone.

3. To see him stand at a podium again, in purple and gold would be closure. When his departure for Miami was finally announced, I believe it was either his post game from the Capital One Bowl or it was his coach's show at the hotel in Orlando prior to the game where he said he would always be a Tiger. It would be cool to see.

Recruits are gonna line up to play for an 74+ yr old ex retired coach they know won’t be there after 1,2,3 yrs. It’s a stupid idea and would be a disaster, just like Belicheck.

The recruits who are in it for the money and dont plan on being here for more than 1 or 2 years? Those recruits?
I dont think he's coming. Thats my logical take

But if I were to suspend disbelief and try and assign some reasoning to why he would come i would think its a pattern of regret with him. He left for the NFL and less than 2 years later rumors came out he wanted back in at LSU (and he pretty much confirmed those rumors in interviews after his retirement) but couldnt bc of the success Les was having. So he found Bama. Now he's retired and less than 2 years later he could be having those same regrets. And DeBoer is doing well.

All of this "love for LSU" and nostalgia and stuff for him would just be bonus. He regrets not coaching, and LSU just happens to be the best job available. Its too perfect to pass up.

...but again im not getting my hopes up.

Saban never won an uncontested title in BR. Spread the word. Hopefully he hears that and feels like he's got something left to prove. Somehow. I dont know. Or give him 30m/yr.

Any remote chance we had with Saban went out the window when his boy Woodward was fired.

Edit: dont know how that got downvoted. SW & Saban are friends from the Emmert days. Well documented. My comment was not a smartass remark to criticize SW's firing. Ive been wanting SW out for a while.
Lane Kiffin has been the HC at Tenn, USC, and Ole Miss. He rehabbed his career under Saban as the OC at Alabama where he ushered in the modern offensive era in the SEC. That is all to say - he has plenty of experience on campuses where expectations are sky high, he has played the glad handing/political game with big time boosters & AD's, and he has experienced adversity in his career and has bounced back from it. He has recruited from coast to coast. Of his 12 full seasons as a HC 6 of them have gone for 10+ wins.

Taking nothing away from Heupel, Kiffin is the safer bet.
I had actually heard earlier in the year from someone in the Athletic Department the Miles was living in a home bc he had gotten so bad.
